I wake up gasping for air unable to breathe

PLEASE please help me.
For 3 nights in a row I have woke up at about 3-5am gasping for air and going really pale, in fact once my face went slightly blue. I have exams and school to concentrate on but this has been preventing it as I get scared of going to sleep because I don't want to wake up unable to breathe again.
I have a mild chest infection according to my doctor. He gave me penicillin to take 4times a day but ever since he gave me it, it hasn't done any help what so ever.

Symptoms I have.
-Aching back and ribs
-Bad cough (Every time I cough I struggle to breathe afterwards)
-Sometimes feeling sick
-Waking up every night gasping for air unable to breathe.
-Tiredness
-Throat hurts when I swallow

ANY advice would be grateful as I really don't
want to wake up in the night anymore unable to breathe and gasping for air then jumping out of bed like a ninja to the bathroom to try and help me breathe. It feels like i'm at deaths door, and I also have a REALLY bad back when I cough, and now it's also when i'm not coughing my back still hurts :(
Is there a cure?

Thank-you <3

Lilmelxo, I am experiencing the exact same thing. I am unable to breathe when lying down. Puffers and nasal sprays don't help. I can't yawn and cannot take deep breaths.  I feel acidic in my throat.  I don't have any history of acid reflux nor does it actually feel like acid reflux.  I'm worried sick that I may have damaged my lungs.  I work in a chemical lab and do research and work with very harmful volatile chemicals.  Lilmexlo, did you figure out what was wrong?  Can someone please please help? It is horrifying.

I too hope you're feeling better.  In my heart I feel you have anxiety along with this chest congestion.  Instead of going back for a doctor visit, why don't you go to the E.R. and get a full work up?  I'm sure that will make you feel better.  I know myself that I give advice but nothing can replace the piece of mind as getting yourself fully evaluated by professionals, including bloodwork and chest x-rays so that they can see what's going on in there.  I know allergies are making alot of us crazy these day and that may be all it is so relax and go let the professionals handle it...that's what they're there for!  Best wishes to you!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

To begin with take a deep breath and relax. Nothing is as frightening or as difficult as it appears to be. Asthma can cause symptoms of breathlessness at night. Have yourself evaluated for the same. This can be detected by a spirometry test.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
