IPF and diabetes

I am 75 yr old male, was diagnosed with idyopathic pulmonay fibrosis, 1 yr ago. The liung doctor has put me on 10 mg of predisone and said i would need to take this the rest of my life. I am a type 2 diabetic and after taking predisone for 6 mo I can't control my blood sugers. I have always taken NPH insulin and Glucophage 2000mg daily My problem is wether I should continue the pridisone or stop it so I can go back to my NPH insulin and other medsjust as I was. My diebetis was pretty well under control before this with my HGBa1c was 7 now it 8. Any one out there with the same problem?
