Lung Nodules

by wab42, May 29, 2008 12:16PM
My mother-in-law has been sick with what we thought was a bad sinus infection that got into her chest. After about a month of trying to fight this herself, she went to the doctor and was told she had pneumonia. She has been taking antibiotics and going to the doctor regularly for a month now and seems to be doing better. But during a chest x-ray, the radiologist found some nodules. Her doctor called last night around 9 pm and told her to go for a ct scan and he will read them when he gets back from vacation. My wife and I have been reading up on nodules and have found that if the nodules are big enough to see on an x-ray, they are bigger than 2 cm and that is not good. She has not ever smoked, never been around any type of asbestos dust, eats well and takes really good care of herself. Could these nodules be a sign of a problem? Or did they form from her pneumonia? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I  recently went thru something like this myself. Its lasted now for 9 months.when it first started I felt I had an awful infection and had a hard time breathing when lying down.then at one point months later took on the worst sinis and head cold Id ever had.For 7months I went to doctors and was givin anitibiotics that seemed to help some while taking them but still my right lung did not feel right.Felt like I wasnt taking in air. Finally I started having pain that just continued to get worse.,to the point I knew I couldnt keep working that way.And my energy level droped.I then went to a pulminary Dr.I went thru x-rays,ct scan, pet scan, and a biopsy.Only to still not get any answers. And the biopsy I went thru was not pleasent.they dont put you to sleep ,just num you and give you pain med.thru an Iv.But still very unpleasentAnd they done this twice because they didnt get a good enough sample the first time. And that to came back unconclusiveSo I went thru surgery to have a nodule completly removed and sent off.It came back as Histoplasmosis. The doctor told me they thought they were looking at a really bad cancer because of the pet scan and my symtoms. It also showed up in my lymph nodes. Now the dr. says I dont need any further treatment even though Im reading different on these sites.Im still searching for answers.I suggest you make sure she has a really good Dr. and goes thru test that could tell her if it is a fungal infection,or something other than cancer first before she is put thru painful biopsys and surgery. But do it ASAP dont wait around. And dont wait on the Dr.coming back from vac. mine also was going to be out of his office after I had my pet scan, but he still made himself availiable by phone and called me as soon as he knew the results. Then he sent me to an ongologist.
