Rapid onset pulmonary edema and rapid disappearance

by premed2014, Oct 10, 2009 04:08PM
I had acute bronchitis approximately 3 months ago and got over it without any medications. 1 month ago I moved to another state and my coughing resumed. I was put on an advair inhaler. It seemed to be working fine for about a week. Then again recently my lungs have started filling with fluid rapidly and then clearing just as rapidly. When the edema sets in I feel gurgling sounds and wheezing. As far as I can tell there are no common triggers between episodes. Even with these symptoms I am able to run everyday for 45 minutes do yoga and pilates and it does not exacerbate my symptoms. Consequently, it is suspected that it might possibly be due to allergies and I am again on advair, singulair and claritin, however the symptoms still occur. I do not believe it is a chronic infection because upon listening to my lungs they can be completely clear and then two hours later be filled with fluid making it difficult to breathe properly then 2 hours after couging up yellowish mucus clear again only for the entire cycle to occur randomnly the next day. I do not have problems falling asleep or the difficulty in breathing does not present at night or wake me up while sleeping. Have you ever heard of such symptoms associated with allergies or any other disease?
