I have a trach myself and have put the stopper on it whenever I am not on the vent. It does feel like there is resistance especially since my size is a #6 Shiley. Because you are planning to decannulate, are the doctors decreasing her tube size? Less tube in the trachea means less space and an easier time of breathing with the cap on. What size is your wife's tube?
