I know you may not want to hear this, but smoking never helps any lung condition. I have COPD, which was caused by many years of smoking. I will admit that. I do so feel for you having pleurisy. I have had it 5 times within the past year. Never had it before in my life, until I developed this lung disease. Now, pleurisy seems to be a part of life for me. My first episode of pleurisy was last January. It took me 3 long and miserable months to get over. I too was in unbelievable pain and was very sore to the touch. I had it under the right breast area. I even was swollen in that area as well. Doctor gave me a strong antibiotic, but still took me 3 mths. to get over the pleurisy. Ibuprofen does help ease the pain somewhat and will help with the inflamation (inflammation). Doctor advised me to take the ibuprofen. I have had several other episodes of pleurisy, that I did not go to the doctor for. I took the ibuprofen and thank goodness was other these episodes within 4 to 7 days. Just two months ago, I had to go to the doctor again for pleurisy. Was given an antibiotic and took the ibuprofen. Luckily, I got over that bout of pleurisy within maybe a week. I will go to bed feeling okay and then just wake up with pleurisy. I so dread when I wake up with pleurisy. My lung disease is causing my pleurisy I am quite certain. This does not mean you have any lung disease. Anyone can develop pleurisy. I am not going to preach to you. I know as a smoker how I felt about that. But, the cigarettes have cost me so much. Once a vital and healthy person. Now, I am just a shell of my former self. I am sick quite often with pneumonia and bronchitis, as well as pleurisy. I can no longer do the things I once enjoyed. I no longer have the breath. I took breathing so for granted. Now, it is precious to me. My COPD consists of chronic bronchitis, emphysema and asthma. And no one loved and enjoyed a cigarette as much as me. Just my experience. I am only trying to help save others, from what I am now living with. I hope your pleurisy improves very quickly for you. It is very miserable I do agree.
