morning &nite time cough

hi.my son is 5 yrs old and started coughing as soon as he wakes up in the morning and before he goes to bed at night.it started about 2 months ago.took him to the doctor he had a throat and ear infection he got some antibiotic,the infection went but the cough never went away.6 weeks after i took him back to the doctor the doc said the ear infection never left so he give him some more antibiotics ,i think the infection went away..but the cough is still here.during the day he is all good no cough.the doctor never said any thing about the cough being a serious condition but i am still worried..what should i do?
