Prostatitis

In a nut-shell:

I have been with (and only with) my live-in boyfriend for almost 4 years now. It is my understanding that we are in a monogamous relationship and have been. We had been having unprotected sex.

He had a really "upset stomach" and was often rushing to the washroom. I assumed he had diarrhea. Then after a visit to the hospital he told me that he has Prostatitis. I was a bit taken aback because I had no inclination of a problem with his parts. He never mentioned pain or discomfort. I realize that he may have been uncomfortable discussing this with me but it seems to be that he waited until he "knew" what it was before he mentioned an issue.

Here's what I know:
He felt sick.
He has been abstaining from sexual contact with me for the past 3 weeks.
He was running to the washroom... allot.
Saturday he went to the hospital. Saturday he left with the "diagnosis" of Prostatitis & a prescription for RAN-CIPROFLOXACIN... 28 500MG pills... to be taken 2 times a day until finished.

I would like to know more about the antibiotics he was prescribed... how long it takes for Prostatitis results... what the testing procedure is... could this actually be Gonorrhea or Chlamydia... would he have been sent home with a paper copy of his results???

I am to be fully checked out tomorrow for my own good.

Thank you for responding so quickly!

I spoke to my boyfriend who then took me with him to the same doctor to confirm that he didn't have any STD/STI.

I absolutely have some trust issues and I didn't even realize how I was being until I read what you both wrote... (a slight wake-up call!). He cheated on me 2 years ago and it can be really hard sometimes to not assume the worst.

Again... thank you.. in more ways than you know!

That dose of cipro does suggest prostatitis.

Prostatitis can sometimes be from an std, but it isn't always.  To diagnose it, he probably had a urine test done and a physical exam.

Its not something that is usually confused with other things, if there was an exam done.

It does sound like you have some trust problems, going both ways.  I'd wonder, too, why he didn't tell you, but I'd also wonder why your first assumption is to not believe him.

Cipro is used to cure a number of different things, but not commonly used to treat chlamydia and I do not believe it is used to treat gonorrhea either but I could be wrong on the gonorrhea.

I can not tell you what a Dr's office would give someone with ot without test results.
But I believe that both gon and chly are STD's that notification must be made to partners.
Now if he had one of them and gave it to you, then after he was finished with the medication had sex with you again, chances are he would get it back.

It sounds like you are having trust issues with him, I would sit down and talk with him and also get yourself tested.
