Irrational Fear?

Has anyone else dealt with having a sort of obssession with maybe having an std? The last time I had sex was almost a year ago due to my newfound paranoia. I had unprotected sex and a day later i noticed some irritation on my penis. I go to the dictor a couple days later. In the first visit my doctor said I had a molluscum and it went away after a few months. He said no big deal and he would test me(blood)for all stds just in case. Negative for all stds. I was relieved for a while but I began reading online and decided to get tested again a few months later in case antibodies hadn't shown up or something....Again negative for everything. 3 or 4 months after the second test I was still feeling paranoid so my doctor agreed to test again(blood and urine)for all stds. This was probably 8 or 9 months after last exposure and once again I tested negative for all stds. All in all I've had 3 or 4 doctor examinations due to me scrutinizing my penis & freaking out, only to be told that everything is fine and it's just a clogged sebaceous gland. 3 blood/urine tests all saying I'm negative for every std. And I haven't had sex at all. By the third visit my doctor suggested medication. This whole thing makes me feel really crazy even though I'm relatively normal. I can't believe how I've let my mind blow things so out of proportion. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything close to this and what they've done to overcome paranoid thoughts and compulsions to examine your genitals like 90 times a day.....??

Thank you for responding. That's really good advice. It is probably my obssessive compulsive nature exploiting what seems to be my biggest fear. I need to get my head in the game.......Such an obscure and embarassing thing to worry about. I never thought I was capable of such insanity but oh well. I need to conciously interrupt my thought processes or something. Thanks again, I will try to simply "let go."

People have done this time in and time out of the day. Hell, I do this sometimes now just to make sure or to keep myself secure. The only way to keep you away from these thoughts is just to let go. The exposure you had is now over with and no consequences came out of it. What's done is done and test results never lie. The internet is a bad place for information because just about everyone has the ability to post anything and let people accept it as legit information. There are so many medical sites that say this or that symptom can occur but yet when the test come, nothing serious is there that could be causing that symptom. This is why we implore individuals such as yourself to accept the physician' word and move on or keep yourself informed with the right information through the knowledge of books, lectures, and one on one time with someone who knows a great deal of information in this medical field.
