Confused about UTI treatment

Greetings,

I had unprotected sex 3 1/2 weeks ago, and 4 days later I started feeling discomfort after urination, and redness on my scrotum. I did a telehealth appt and was prescribed azith and Metronidazole. At day 12, I was still feeling discomfort so I took a 10 panel test, where everything came back negative except for HSV 1. I went to my doctor earlier this week and was prescribed terbinafine for a possible yeast infection, and cipro for a potential UTI. After 4 days of both, I’m still not feeling any much relief.  Is it possible that I’m on a wrong antibiotic? Trying to self medicate, I’m reading that doxycycline might be more appropriate? My doctor won’t refer me to a urologist because my recent UA came back clean, so I’m wondering how long I wait before caving in and going to urgent care? I’m confused because I don’t know if all of this is UTI driven or HSV1 driven even though I have no lesions, sores, etc. Even if it were HSV1, wouldn’t the symptoms be subsiding at some point? I know this is a volunteered site and I don’t mean to bring up some details of a previous post, but I’m desperate for some advice as I’ve been suffering for close to a month now.

The 'potential' uti part is odd. That's a bacterial infection that is normally only treated if it shows in urine. UTI's do cause discomfort and pain. You really need to stop trying to play your own doctor here. You're working with a medical professional. Reading on line and thinking you know better than a trained doctor kind of makes me think anxiety is really creating chaos in your brain right now. Keep working with your doctor. Everything you bring up has likely been discussed and disregarded, correct? None of these things are 'unknowns'. They test and treat them. The caving in and going to urgent care does indeed sound like a move to just ease your anxiety. Hopefully you are feeling better by now but it is important to TRY to distinguish what is anxiety driven and what is real. Our body will feel sensations on an intense level when we are anxious and hyperfocused on it. Get busy and do some other things. See if it will dissipate a little. Do you work with anyone on your anxiety?

Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it. Yes, anxiety has literally killed me for 3 weeks. My mind has been wrapped around the axel because of all of the testing. Testing negative for bacterial STIs definitely put my mind at ease, but the testing positive for HSV1 is what threw me. Never tested positive for it in 40 years, so for it to coincidentally happen after this is what caused me so much angst. It’s like I’ve been waiting for something to show up and it never has, so I’ve literally driven myself crazy feeling like a shoe was going to drop. The discomfort in my Scott um and after urinating was very real, I just haven’t been given an answer why. The good news is that yesterday was the first full day without either issue, so it looks like the Cipro and Terbinafine are working. To your point though, I have to let the anxiety go and focus on putting everything past me.

Thank you again for responding back. I know it’s not easy taking the time to do so. You’re appreciated.
