Extremely stressed

Hi Doctor,

I had an unprotected only oral sex with an unknown girl during September 2009. Later, I got a fear that I could have contracted STD's. I was tested and result came as HIV negative after 6 months since from that exposure. I was also tested and result came as Hepatitis B negative and Hepatitis C negative after 10 months since from the exposure. Still, I could not feel relaxed and thinking I might have contracted something.

I developed burning sensation in my body (especially in my back, legs and feet) after 10 days since from the exposure. It comes and goes. I was tested for Thyroid and the result came as normal. My doctor said that burning sensation could have come to the picture only because of nerve disorder.

I just want to relax myself. Am I not infected with any STD's? Do I need to get tested again? Please help me. It is my humble request.

Thanks,
Brian

I'm not going to say yes because nothing is 100% I think it is safe for you to ease your mind for the very reason that you've been tested past the recommended time lines for testing and they were neg. if you were infected you would have had a pos. result by then. you've had conclusive results relax

Hi,

Thank you so much for your kind reply which really has given piece to my mind. Thanks again.

Actually, I have plans to change my job. If I join a company, I may need to go through standard medical test. The scenario I have narrated above is right and true.

Shall I move on without re-testing? Am I safe? Should I feel relaxed?

If you say YES, I can certainly feel peace completely.

If you were tested for all STDs 6 months post your exposure and they came back neg. I think you can move on. Your doctor is very much correct when he/she stated that it could have been your nerves. Anxiety and stress cause a lot of unwarranted symptoms. Of course if you are having high anxiety about your results then maybe you should retest so that you can move on. but again 6 months post exposure is conclusive for all stds
