Being that we are not Dr's we would not know that info here. I would say basically no risk for the oral sex and syphilis.

Oral sex and syphilis is not common. Syphilis is not common in developed countries (only about 20,000 cases in the US last year), in women and only about 1/2 the people who come into contact with a sore get syphilis and it is also rare in the mouth.

Just unprotected oral, brief.  I know that I have virtually no risk for syphilis, but I was just curious about whether there was any kind of failure rate for doxycycline.  The doctors say that it cures Syphilis, and I believe them, but they also say that penicillin is the number one antibiotic for Syphilis, which I am allergic to.  I was just wondering about success rates comparing the two medications, if anybody had an idea.

Still an impossible question to really answer based on the number of questions I see daily. Also most people just say they tested positive and don't give a full detail, or they take medicine before tests and do not come back.

What was your risk?

Dear Vance,

Sorry, I didn't mean the testing time.  What I meant was whether you guys knew of anyone who had taken doxycycline for 14 days as preventative therapy for syphilis who then went on to test positive?

thanks very much

Really an impossible question to answer. Of the few people who answer questions we see about 20-30 daily and to tough to keep track of something like that.

I can say that I don't think I have seen anyone test positive at 14 days because I would never recommend testing that soon.
