Recurrent NGU

Hi.  I tested negative for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea but postive for NGU.  I have been on multiple courses of antibiotics, starting with the standard azithromycin single dose, then double dose, doxycyline for 7 days, doxycycline for 7 days plus metronidazole for 5 days, doxycycline for 7 days plus something else for 5 days, and finally erythromycin at 500mg 4 times a day for 21 days.  I've just finished the erythromycin and the symptoms (clear discharge and slight burning/tingling) have come back.  I will go back to the clinic, but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea how I can cure this.  I believe I was initially reinfected by my partner, but we have now abstained since I have had the doxycyline/metronidazole and erythromycin.  What can cure this?  Thanks.

Your last statement about different strains and medication is 100% right on. You can ask for a urinalysis to look for steph, and strep those are often common bacteria for NGU.

Thank you for your comment regarding my problem of a recurrent NGU.  You asked when I get the discharge.  This is in the morning usually and sometimes during the day if I haven't passed urine in a number of hours.  I'm certain that this is not pre-seminal fluid.  I have now been off of the prescribed 21 day course of Eurythromycin for 3 days and the discharge is getting worse and the itching has come back.  I'm just concerned that this is a very hard to clear up NGU as none of the antibiotics have worked, I'm not having sex, and everytime I finish a course of different antibiotics the symptoms return within a few days.  I'm hearing more and more that there are very different strains of bacteria and that the antibiotics are a hit and miss as there are few tests that can determine specifically which bacteria are causing the problem if it isn't chlamydia or gonnoreah.  Any feedback would be helpful.  Next week I'll be back off to the clinic.  Thanks.

When do you get the discharge? Just morning? After being aroused? Or just anytime throughout the day? I just want to make sure that you really do have NGU and it is just not the body makeing and discharging pre-seminal fluid.

If it is still NGU I would follow up with the Dr again because what you have taken is correct and should clear you up, but since it seems like it has not then it is best to keep working with the Dr's.
