Ureaplasma urealyticum and MYCOPLASMA genitalium???

I complained of tingling in the tip of my urethra one year ago, i went to the dr got tested for the usual stds and all were negative and i was referred to the urologist and he stuck is finger up my but and said i had high PSA for prostitis,  given cipro and most but not all symptoms went away.

i wasn't sexually active for a few months but was in a monogamous relationship and it seemed to trigger the tingling again,

I did the research this time and demanded other tests,  i tested again for chlamydia, gonn, etc negative and trachamoniasis , negative.

THe last brings me to

MYCOPLASMA GENITALIUM AND UREAPLASMA UREALYTICUM

both these are very high incidents of STD s accross the world, both can cause urethritis and even secondary prostistis this makes total sense!!!!! from my symptoms.

i have read that it is compicated to diagnose and treat? anyone have experience doing both??? please help??

i read urine PCR tests are most reliable

but as far as treatment i read they are all resistant to the typical azithromycin dose

one responds better to erythromycin and the other moxifloxacin.

what is the best treatment that would cover both?????????

this has been so frusturating and ihave a new partner and i fear i might of given it to her

For those searching for a lab that does Mycoplasma genitalium tests (and at a decent price), check out the Mycoplasma lab at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Here's a link to their site:

http://www.mycoplasma.uab.edu/

I spoke with the lab manager, Lynn Duffy, whp was extremely helpful. It requires a doctor to order the test, and my primary care physician and urologist each refused because neither had any clue what M. Genitalium was. I have an appointment with an infectious disease doctor in three weeks, after I try the z-pack. I've already tried doxy and levaquin w/o success.

Hi Greensky (or anyone else who can help),

I just came across your post from last year regarding Azithromycin and ureaplasma treatment.  Based on your post, it sounds like the antibiotic eradicated your infection, which is great news!  My partner is having similar symptoms, and the dr. has put him on doxycycline 2x a day x 14 days.  He started taking them last Tuesday, but this past weekend, he had burning on urinating, and a tingling sensation which he believes is in his prostate.  Wanted to check in and see if your symptoms have completely gone away from Azithromycin, since it's been a year (and would you recommend it?), and if you were able to resume sexual activity with your partner without any further problems (did she have to be treated with Azythromycin also?).  If so, what dosage do you think worked best for you?  We are beyond frustrated, and at our wits end with all of this - looking to speak with dr. about further treatment.

Any input you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated. Many Thanks!

My daughter has had years of torment with cystitis, burning on urination and vulvadynia but all tests came back negative - she went to many different drs - urologists, gynaecologists and internists and even tried nutritionists and healers. Finally she came back to Uk in desperation - she lives in California - and was diagnosed with ureaplasma - the test was negative in US but positive here as it's a difficult one to do. She has just started taking a very high dose of doxycycline (600 mg) for 10 days as lower doses sometimes don't work and she doesn't want to take any chances after suffering for so long. These bacteria are very resistant. Will let you know if it works....fingers crossed!

Saw this thread and had to post. My story is up on the expert board now. Similar to a lot of your stories and I am freaking out in the same way a lot of you are. Nearly a year in and no improvement. I asked Dr. Hook about m. gen. stuff and am waiting for a reply. Please continue posting updates for better or worse.

Hi,I visited the Gum clinic last tuesday and spoke with the consutant there
for quite a while regarding all this.
He checked my prostate all ok.Took a swab from my penis.Good news nothing at all could be seen.I told him that I still feel symptoms and he said with all the treatment I have had I am uninfectious.
Next stage he gave me an emollient to wash with rather than my shower gel.
lubricant for masturbation.
anaesthic gel for tip of penis.
If they do not work he give me a steroid gel to use.
If they do not work he said he has another tablet to try and may send me for hypnosis as he thinks I am suffering from a lot of anxiety.
So far still feel the same and will start on the steroid.
Maybe this is a residual side affect from my Nsu but I still am having symptons.
I will have to see what happens and let you know.
