STD risk

Dear Dr,

Three days ago, I made the mistake of going to a massage parlour. The young lady offered me protected oral sex which I accepted. I understand that I made a big mistake and on top of it, i'm in a relationship with someone so I'm worried sick about STDs.

To make a long story short, I had protected oral sex. The only place her mouth touched my penis was on the condom. That I am certain off. After, the young lady took the condom off and it looked to be intact (no tears, no leaks, etc.).

A day and a half later, I started feeling mild uncomfort at the tip of my penis. I can't really describe it as burning or itching, just uncomfort or irritation. It seems to go away when I urinate. Right now, three days after the events, I'm still feeling this uncomfort, but it doesn't hurt to urinate and I haven't seen any redness that is out of the ordinary nor any discharge.

Needless to say, I am worried sick. Considering the type of exposure I described, am I at risk for any STDs ? Can what I feel on my penis be attributed to the condom, to anxiety or any other cause ? Can it be a sign of a STD that I might have contracted ?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to our Forum.  I am please to tell you that the exposure that you describe above did not put you at risk for STD in any way.  Few STDs are transmitted through oral sex and those which are are reliably prevented by condom use.

With regard to your symptoms, there are no STDs which cause symptoms in only a day and one-half following exposure.  Sometimes after an exposure that, in retrospect, one wishes they had not had, persons tend to examine themselves and be far more attuned to genital sensations than in periods when they are not concerned.  This in turn leads to noticing what turn out to be normal sensations that might have been not noticed or ignored at other times.  Perhaps this was a contributor to your situation.

To summarize, you are not at risk from the exposure you describe, you do not need to worry and you do not need testing.  I hope these comments are helpful to you.  EWH

You are being paranoid. This will end this thread.

1.  No you could not transfer it to your rectum in the manner you describe.
2.  Yes, this treatment would also treat rectal infection.

Np futher anxiety-driven questions please.  EWH

Hi again,

Another few questions (maybe me being a bit paranoid).

If I had contracted gonorrhea or chlamydia in my urethrea, would it be possible for me to transfer it to my rectum or anus ? I ask because I realise that I often use the same washcloth / towel / toilet paper when cleaning my genitals and anal area after going to the toilet or while taking my shower ?

Since my urethral symptoms were getting worse, I went to my doctor earlier this week and she prescribed 1 x 400 mg of Suprax and 4 x 250 mg of Novo-Azithromycin to take in one dose. She also took a urine sample, but i haven't received the results yet. If I had contaminated my anus or rectum, would this treatment be strong enough to cover both infections (urethral and rectal) ? I noticed that the urethral symptoms have gone down, but i'm worried that I may have contaminated my self elsewhere.

Thank you again.

Thank you again

I guess I'll keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better, I'll see a physician.

It is difficult to answer this questions without examining you however fungal infections can cause irritation at the tip of the penis. To determine this you should be examined by a clinician familiar with these problems.  As I said, what you describe in not however, an STD.  EWH

Thank you Doctor.

I forgot to mention something. I've had a issue with fungus (sort of like an athlete foot rash) around my groin area. I had already seen a doctor for that a year ago and have had creme prescribed in the past (at the time the MD said it was NOT a STD and the creme was effective). It sometimes gets real itchy, especially during summer time (like these last few weeks) and then goes away. Before this whole string of events, it was bugging me for a few days. Could the irritation on the tip of my penis be associated with that ? Could it have migrated from my groin to the tip of my penis ?

Thank you again
