Antibiotics

I went to the doctor and he gave me treatment for chlamydia.  My girl is pregnant and was in the hospital with a kidney infection for 4 days- the gave her IV  antibiotics and after her release they gave her more antibiotics to take- will these antibiotics treat the chlamydia if she was exposed? she is 6 months pregnant.

Some antibiotics are effective for chlamydial infections and other, commonly used antibiotics are not.  Recommended therapy for chlamydia is either azithromycin (Zithromax) or doxycycline.  Some but not all quinolone antibiotics also reliably cure chlamydia.  The best thing to do is to let your girl know that you have chlamydia and that it is important, both for her and your unborn child, to be treated.  Her obstetrician can then evaluate whether her infection is adequately treated.

The situation is a little more complicated in her situation than yours because many of the antibiotics typically used for chlamydia (doxycycline and quinolone antibiotics) are not routinely used in pregancy.  Please do not delay in letting her know that she needs to be treated for chlamydia so she can get this sorted out with her docter.
Good Luck.  EWH
