Is it possible?

I had blisters on my labias, very painful, about 5 of them. I got a first blood test for HSV 1 -2 and everything turned out negative...

HSV 1/2 combined Ab SCRN IgG 0.62 & HSV Type 1/2 combined Ab IgM 0.10

No symptoms of any sort since then... I got another this week (about a month after the initial "outbreak")... Can I still hope to be clear? My doctor was puzzled and didn't say much...

Hey Doc, when you say the lesions can last for 10 days or so for Initial Infection, would the Blister stay that long? How fragile is the Blister once it forms?

The timing is helpful, even in a general way.  the onset of your lesions, as well as the way they sound certainly suggests herpes.  If the lesions occur again, a culture from them as soon as possible after they appear will be most helpful in telling what is going on.

As for the blood test. the first blood test was probably too early.  Hopefully the second will provide more information.

Good luck.  EWH

Few precisions: unprotected episode in October, lesion appearing about 2 weeks after, first blood test Nov 5 (with the negative results) and second test Dec 5 (awaiting results).

The lesions that you describe are compatible with herpes, e.g. small fluid filled blisters 2-4 mm in diameter which are uncomfortable and go on to form ulcers.  In initial episodes they tend to last about 10-14 days, if they represent a recurrence they may only last 3-4 days.

This test result is negative and, since you also got an IgM result, we know you were not tested with a tested based on the herpes gG protein.  These are the preferred tests.  A widely used gG-based test is the HerpeSelect.

You do not say much about how much time has passed since you had the lesions on your labia .  With the HerpeSelect, if someone does not already have HSV-1, at 6 weeks and 3  months, the test is positive in about 75 and 95% of persons, respectively.

Hope this helps.  EWH
