Could tests be wrong?

Hi Dr,

I know this will seem as if I am crazy and should let this go but I know something is wrong. Sept 15 unprotected vaginal intercourse. Oct 23 slight buring when urinating and very frequent need to urinate no discharge. Tested for gon & chla {urine sample}. I had been treated just in case before results came back {single dose azithro and 7 day doxy) symptoms seemed to go away. Results came back neg. Nov 16 testicle pain started scared so tested for HIV. results neg. Dec 19 reacurance of irritation during urination, urgent need to urinate, pungent smeel and color change in urine, buzzing in urithra, loss of appetite, lost 10 lbs, upset stomach. PCP tested me for Hep, Trich, and did a rectal exam. Diagnosed me with prostitis.Treated with 3 weeks Of Cipro. symptoms cleared. The other two test came back neg. Jan 3 home access HIV test came back neg. Jan 23 went to std cliic teted for gonn, chla, & syph. all came back neg. Feb 28 another home access HIV test came back neg. March 11 hopefully last HIV test came back neg. It is now April 2 I still have odor to urine, buzzing in urithra, developed a tenderness under brest bone, both sides of neck have swollen lymps, and a mild ear ach that has lasted 3 weeks. My pcp says the chest pain could be from acid reflux, and that my lymphs are normal to be swollen.
1} could my inital test for gon & chla be wrong
2} can I trust the homa access test
3} what should my next step be
4} does cipro work on both gon & chlam
I know something is wroung with me!! It all started after the encounter. Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!

You definitely are overreacting.  Your PCP is right that you don't have HIV or any STD, and your symptoms do not suggest it. You aren't crazy, but definitely you 'should let this go'.

1) No, your initial tests were not wrong.  2) You can trust the home access HIV test results.  3) Next step is to follow your PCP's advice.  4) The treatment you had definitely would have cleared up chlamydia, gonorrhea, or any other infection that could be causing such symptoms.  There may indeed be 'something wrong with you', but if so, it isn't an STD or HIV.  Emotion/anxiety undoubtedly is an important part of the problem.  See this thread, from a couple of days ago:

While you are waiting for dr H to respond, I was hoping I can help calm your anxiety a bit. I don't believe an std is your problem.  Your tests clearly show that whatever is going on isn't gonnorhea, chlamydia, trich, hiv, or syphillis.  The tests are right, including the hiv home access kit.  I do believe cipro can eradicate bacterial std's but it isn't the recommended antibiotic for treatment b/c one can be resistant to it.  If you haven't seen a urologist, that should be your next move.  Unless, this is all due to anxiety.  In which case you may just try forgetting it & see if the symptoms go away.  Good luck.

In case anyone saw the information from "UnluckySoul", which I deleted, much of what s/he said about oral STDs was wrong.  Please disregard it.

Thank you all for the advice. I will talk to my PCP about a referal to an urolagist. After that I will try to put my energy into something else. I am sorry to ask another question but my PCP said that there was no need to look into HSV due to the lack of sores. Is this correct or could this be the problem? Anyway I thank you all again. This is a great help to people who need to talk. I hope others read these post and learn from them.

Your PCP is right about herpes, which simply does not cause the symptoms you describe and is not a concern.  Just live with your symptoms; the chance is very low a urologist will find anything more to treat; you'll have an uncomfortable and expensive evaluation that goes nowhere.  Based on the nature of your symptoms and the treatment you have had, there is no realistic chance that you have anything that will ever harm you or a future sex partner.  If you haven't done it, definitely read the thread I suggested in my original response.

Thanks for the thanks about the forum.  But although I'm glad you like the feedback from others, that's not the main purpose of this forum.  Further discussion along those lines is the purpose of the patient-to-patient STD support forum.
