The amoxicillin you took would prevent syphilis, if exposed.
Worrying about HSV is a non-issue. If you do not develop sores/lesions in the 14 days after exposure, there is no reason to worry. Testing for HSV is not recommended.
With regard to your "what if" about gonorrhea and chlamydia (which I already told you is not a concern) anything is possible. Of course, you could be struck by a speeding glacier while reading this too.
Please, enough of the "what if"s. and repetitive questions. If you feel you must be tested to assuage your guilt, the tests I would recommend are only gonorrhea and HIV for the reasons I have already stated. EWH
Thank you for your quick response.
Dr., What about syphilis? Would my dosage of Amoxicilin cured that? Also, what about herpes and HIV, do I need to worry about that. I want to narrow down which STDs I should test for, as I don't have insurance and don't want to spend money on something that is not necessary.
Also, in regards to gonorrhea and chlamydia, is it possible that the Amoxicilin could have cured it instead of hiding it's symptoms?
At 6 days after taking the Amoxicilin would a test for gonorrhea be valid? As for the entire 18 days, if I can afford a full panel, would it be valid for Gon, Chyl, Syphillis, Herpes, and HIV?
Thank you.
Welcome to our Forum. I'll be pleased to comment. Assessment of what is really going on is somewhat hampered by your self-medication. The problem with self-medication is that sometimes (as in your case) people take medications that may obscure a diagnosis but not cure the problem. this in turn can lead to smoldering infections. Your amoxicillin might have had activity against gonorrhea and slight activity against chlamydia (which actually is not a problem since oral chlamydial infections almost never occur or rare transmitted).
From your history, I suspect that what you have noticed is simply pre-ejaculate present as the result of your nocturnal arousal. If you had and STD I would expect some discharge during the day and for it to be present day after day, not intermittently. Further, I suspect that because of your concerns, your awareness is heightened making it somewhat more likely that you have noticed secretions which were present form time to time before your encounter as well. That said, there remains a small possibility that you could have acquired non-gonococcal urethritis or (still less likely) gonorrhea through the exposure that you describe. To that end, I suggest that to be completely sure you seek evaluation by a knowledgeable clinician who can evaluate you for these problems at least 6-7 days after your last dose of amoxicillin.
I hope my comments are helpful. EWH
