scared and confused

I 'm a 24 years old man and last week I was shaving my pubic area after a long time without doing it and I found a little small growth or pump above a hair follicle, is was a smooth skin colored and very very small but it did no seem to be red or irritated, however I panicked a lot and I took a  nail clipper to cut it off. it was very small and it bleed a bit. not much though, many was just part of skin but i'm not really sure. Now I've been searching for pictures of warts in the pubic area but none of them seem to be what I had. maybe was a beginning state of Skin tag, ingrown hair or some else.

The thing is that I haven't been able to sleep all these days. and it happened a week ago. now in the pubic area I don't see nothing and it looks like plain normal skin.

My question is, can I request a skin biopsy with a docs office in the area where the small growth was in order to find out if it was an hpv wart since is known that the virus remains in the skin? I've seen videos of skin biopsy (shave biopsy) and I don't really care that much about it. But I've read that biopsy are usually done when there is a visible problem like cancer or something else.

PLEASE I have to ease my mind, i'm going nuts, feeling sick and depressed every day  for not going to the the doc to have it checked first.

This was not a wart.  Warts look like, well, warts.  You can easily find picture on line.

That will end this thread.  Take care.

Welcome to the forum.

From your description -- the location of the lesion, the general description, and the bleeding when it was removed -- I doubt this was a genital wart.  Your idea of a skin tag makes sense.

Another possibility might be molluscum contagiosum, a minor viral infection.  But a single lesion is unusual for MC; if that's it, you should have other lesions, or more will appear soon.  The typical MC lesion is firm, pink, often shiny, and if more than a few days old often has a dimple in the center. Here is a thread that goes into more detail about MC:  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/How-did-I-contract-this/show/1197466

In any case, single genital warts also are extremely uncommon; and the pubic area is an unusual location.  If you do not have typical warty bumps of your penis, and several of them, you can safely conclude that HPV/warts is not the problem.

So my advice is to keep your eye out for other, similar lesions, or for more typical warts.  If anything shows up, get professionally examined.  If not, just forget the whole business.

I hope this helps.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Just one more question.

Do warts show some kind of white thing when they are squeezed?

I ask because even though it didn't have the typical white head, when I was removing it I noticed that it had something white inside, though it never popped out.

I think it could have been just an small hard pimple that wasn't red or irritated because I never scratched it and I barely touched it.

Thanks doc.

I really appreciate your answers.

Now I'll make an appointment with the dermatologist in order to get the gardasil vaccine.

I hope my insurance covers it.

It's unforuntate you have had such difficulty finding consistent diagnoses from doctor you trust.  But that need not continue; there are good physicians out there.  Given your multiple skin-related issues, a dermatologist still is the best bet.  In any case, when there are multiple opinions from several sources, it is rare a distant online source can solve the problem; we cannot make any specific diagnosis in anyone, and on this forum we don't examine posted photos of users' skin conditions.

But even with all that, I don't see the reason for the level of concern you have about STDs.  Oral herpes of course isn't an STD, so even if you had that, what would be the big deal?  Half of all Americans have oral herpes.  And despite the various doctors' opinions, you still describe nothing that suggests genital warts -- and if you get it someday, it's also not such a big deal.  Genital warts are an inconvenience, not a serious health risk.  So try to mellow out about all this.

Thanks for your answer doc, I feel much better now.

However, I really doubt it was MC.

I have to admit that reason for my reaction was because I suffer from a condition called sebaceous gland Hyperplasia inside the foreskin of my penis which for many years made it think that I had an STD. I have lot of them around my penis and scrotum nut I naver thought that they can also grow inside my foreskin. Here is a picture (not actually mine though) http://www.consultantlive.com/image/image_gallery?img_id=1687252&t=1286477226173.

At first I was diagnosed with GW by a general doctor, he prescribed me aldara which didn't work and just irritated my skin, then I went to an urologist in order to have them removed but he told me to stop using the cream and come back in a month when there is no more irritation, however, he said the bumps didn't look like warts for him, though he didn't know what they were (he suggested a biopsy at a hospital), and finally I went to a dermatologist who told me that they are SGH (oil glands) and that I probably have them since I was a kid (which is true),

Doc, should I post a picture of my condition just for the sake of comparison?

On a side note, the same general doc gave me valtrex for a rash that I had on my upper lip that sometimes itch and burn. the valtrex did nothing, and then I started to doubt that the rash was caused  by herpes because I never had blister or sores and I don't think an herpes outbreak don't last the whole winter ( which is when I usually had it), or a whole year.

It wasn't until the dermatologist told me that it wasn't herpes, but a chemical reaction of the oil gland of my skin and he gave me desonate which actually worked and the rash is gone, but he said that there is not cure for that and when the rash come back I must use the cortisone cream again, but at least is not contagious.

As you can see doc, I've been through too much mental pain just for conditions that are actually natural of my body, and in part due to misdiagnosis of the general doctor. Maybe that would explain why I'm so overreactive about all this STD thing.
