Worried about herpes

Ok so I am 22 years old and I have had sex with 6 females all protected with condom except for one time with one and a breif few seconds with another. I have not had sex in about 4 months. Today I noticed a dark red spot about the size of a pea on the upper part of the shaft. It seems to possbly be a little tender. It hads a very slight bump feel to it. It is like a perfect circle it almost looks a little brown until I strech the skin at all. I don't remember exactly when but a few months back I noticed this same spot in the same place which is why this has me worried about herpes. Last winter I got a herpes blood test done cause I have always been a little over the top when it comes to stds so this is like the worst thing for me but the blood test was neg  and I have had sex with only one girl since that test. Last time the spot never really did anything but fade away in a week or two maybe but I don't remember that well. So should I  be concerned with herpes. Could it be anything else? I am also a little worried about seeing a doctor cause I don't want there to be a misdiagnosis. I know I have a problem with being afraid of stds but this just has me so worked up. I just don't understand what could cause this spot and I want to make sure if I get it looked at its by someone who can def tell what it is. I also don't understand when I read about herpes it says so many people don't know they have it but then I have heard dotors say you will know if you have herpes. So the whole thing confuses me. Thank you for all your help

Welcome to our Forum. the lesion you describe is not herpes.  I will tell you why, then I will make a few comments about what this might be.  Your exposure history does not support a diagnosis of herpes.  You have not had sex in 4 months.  Herpes typically presents 4-10 days following exposure. Your negative blood test with only a single sex partner since that time also provides evidence that this is not HSV.  Furthermore, you indicate that your exposures were condom protected. While condoms do not prevent HSV acquisition they certainly reduce it substantially.  In addition, even if your sex partners had herpes (and you do not know that they did so it is safe to say that few, if any of them had it on a statistical basis), most exposures to infected sex partners do not result in transmission of infection. Finally, the lesion you describe does not suggest genital herpes either.  It is the wrong color and is not a vesicle or ulcer which are the characteristic lesions of HSV.  Bottom line, this is NOT HSV.

So, what could it be.  It could be some other sort of dermatological process, most likely allergic in nature.  If and when it recurs, you would be well served to see a dermatologist who can inspect it and provide you with an assessment.  I hope this comment is helpful.  EWH
