HIV Risk?

I recently performed unprotected oral sex on a woman.  I then put on a condom and we had vaginal sex.  When I was done and withdrew, I had blood on the condom.  She said she must have started her period.

I did not taste blood during the oral sex, but it doesn't mean it wasn't there...   Is there a risk that I could be infected by HIV because of this?   How long should I wait before taking a test>??

lol well at least someone is willing to bet on it..i'm sure not. I feel like a lil kid waitin on Christmas morning. Most people want nice gifts for Christmas..all I want is my health and a better year for 2006. Fukk everything else.

Oh and to the previous poster..I'm a professional drunk driver lol j/k..I won't get "drunk" before I go, but I think I will have a beer or 2 to take the edge off.

And to the other poster who mentioned driving to FLA...that's about a 4 hour drive for me just to get to the border. Too far.

I just realized we're kinda mis using this guys post. Sorry about that dude. Whoever owns this site should consider putting up a section (free) just for us worriers to communicate with one another without the Docs. input..sound like a good idea to u all?

Hi All,
I have been reading the archive today and I think it does a world of good. I am in a dilemma like so many people here and I just wish  I didnt visit the red light in amsterdam.

I had protected oral sex (2 mins) with the prostitute and protected vaginal sex after that (3 to 4 mins). I couldnt *** so I used my hands to masturbate. After some time, I did a very stupid thing, I removed the condom and then continued to masturbate with the same hand which I had used earlier.

I am afraid that the vaginal fluid which might be stuck on the condom from the vagina, while I masturbated might have got onto my hand and then infected me after I removed the condom and masturbated. Also, I tried inserting my finger before the vaginal sex and she didnt allow me to do that, i just inserted once, its the same hand I used to masturbate.

I also tried to kiss her and she didnt allow me to. Today is just 1 day after the incident. Should I go for tests tomorrow itself once, 4 weeks later once more and 12 weeks for the final time?

Can you please help me with this, I am getting extremely anxious. I did this yesterday for the first time other than my girl friend and feeling really guilty about it. I hope to get rid of the fear  and forgive myself but more than that its the HIV infection which is bothering me a lot.

After following your posts for a while I guarentee you do not have hiv. I would bet evry cent I have on it. If you get drunk and drive to get your results you have realistic chance of duying in a car wreck (or killing someone else). That doesn't seem to worry you, but instead you worry about something that has no chance to happen. I hope you get help for your real issues. HIV is not amoung them.

I feel ya my man. I'm sure someone around here still does the rapid tests, but I think I'll just wait. This "scare" has been going on for about 3 or 4 months for me now..I don't guess another 13 days will kill me. I'm so out of whack from all of this that I'm really not even trippin' about it. My mind has pondered when and how I would break the news to my parents if I were positive, who I would tell and who I would not tell..etc., but it's pointless to delve too deep into that until I know something for sure. lol I'm sure the "regulars" on this forum are probably thinking "dude has lost it." I guess I'm guilty of relying too much on logic to predict the outcome of things..and with me having the symptoms I have, and having tested neg. for every other STD under the sun..wtf else is left that it could be? Anxiety my a$$..this stuff is real. Not saying that to try to discount you all's opinions, but I've been "anxious" and "worried" before but it sure didn't cause me to feel like this. But as I stated before, I appreciate all of you all's input. I've grown to like this forum. While nothing can be diagnosed here, it is if nothing else a good way for people to share their experiences. Special thanks to the Doc also for being so patient and not lighting into my a$$ like he has some of the others. (although I'm sure it's coming soon lol)

In august when I had my freak out I was in north carolina. I was concerned with other STDs but since I was there I got an HIV test as an after thought. They had the same policy you place does, but the wait was THREE WEEKS. I tested neg for the other stuff, then started to worry about HIV just because the test was hanging. Also, I live in Oregon and they would not give me results by phone. I freaked and went to planned parenthood and got a 20 minute oraquick. Negative. It put me through undue stress.

And yes it is kinda cruel to subject someone to that long of a wait..and to make it all worse, you can't even call in to get your results. You have to go BACK to the health dept. to get them. I can't imagine having to look the nurse in the eye (she was cute too) while she tells me "Welp, sir..you're positive."
The least they could do is allow you to be in the comfort of your own home when you get your results. Needless to say I'll probably be good and drunk when I go to get mine. I have a very bad feeling about what the outcome is gonna be..but I'm remaining hopeful (trying to at least). Out of curiousity, is that common practice to not give the results over the phone, even with the unique "code" that they give you to identify yourself by when you call in? This is my first test (ever), but I'm seeing that HIV is handled in a much different manner than other tests. Damn with modern technology I would think that by now I should be able to **** on a stick AT HOME and have results within 30 seconds..oh well, maybe some day.

Im in G.A. They discontinued the rapid tests in my town because they said they couldn't keep them in quick enough to keep up with the demand for them

Two weeks? That is barbaric. Or at least puritanical, when the health dept. knows you could just get a rapid test & call it a day. What part of the country do you live in?

I'm with you BARBAAD..same symtoms here, plus painful nodes in neck and groin. My doc says he couldn't feel them, but I do. I feel pains shooting thru the ones in my groin, and my neck hurts in the same exact spot on both sides. All of this has been going on for about 3.5 months now. Any other infection would have cleared up by now I would think. It's just coincidence that this all occured after what I consider a high risk exposure? I really wish I had saved the condom that night so I could check it, because a break in the condom is all I can come up with to explain all this. I failed to mention I was sick as a dog about 2 weeks later. I just don't get it. Then to top it off, our Health Dept. has discontinued their use of the rapid testing. You must wait 2 weeks now, and I can't seem to locate another testing facility in my town. Labcorp says they only do HIV testing with a doctors order (what the point of that is I don't know.) It should be illegal to make someone wait 2 weeks for HIV results..that's more than ample time for a person to drive theirself crazy with anxiety. But at any rate, I appreciate all of your input. I sincerely hope you're right. Either way I'm abstinent after this is all over with. Sex isn't worth the risk.

I asked the girl multiple times and she says she gets tested every month.  She said she just got tested two weeks ago, and everything was ok....  Don't know if I can trust her though or not.

Thanks for easing my mind a little bit.

I agree with the person who posted just above this. Too many websites encourage folks to look for symptoms of HIV. Symptoms are important if you *know* you have HIV and you are trying to gage when you may develop AIDs, usually 8-10+ years after infection. But if you're trying to find out if you were exposed to the virus, the test is the only way to go. I think most people who obsess about symptoms are spending too much time surfing the Internet, and they come across glossy websites that post lists of symptoms.

Symptoms are not and cannot be any kind of reliable indicator of HIV infection.  Many more common things cause all kinds of symptoms.

The only way to tell if someone has an HIV infection is to take a test.  Symptoms mean nothing.

imdumb is right.  Anxiety or other emotional disorders are by far the most common causes of the symptoms you describe.  HIV does not cause such symptoms.  See a mental health provider.  I suggest it from compassion, not criticism.

Not a symptom of HIV..but a sympton of extreme anxiety over getting an STD like herpes or HIV.  You do not have either.

Hey can anyone tell me if skin crawling and muscle twitching, along with all over body muscle aches are known symptoms of early stage HIV infection?

I think the Dr. would say that the risk is zero or close to it.  Your partner probably doesn't have HIV (You may want to ask your partner this) and there are no documented cases of HIV from the exposure you describe.  Doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about.

You had protected sex and are at essentially no risk for HIV.  Any menstrual blood undoubtedly was on the outside of the condom.  Anyway, even without condoms, sex during menstruation does not appear to significantly increase the risk of HIV infection.  And HIV has never been documented to be acquired by cunnilingus, with or without blood exposure.  On top of all that, the odds are your partner doesn't have HIV anyway.  (Have you asked her?)

Bottom line:  I do not consider this a high risk exposure, even if it turns out she has HIV; and I do not recommend people in your situation have an HIV test.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
