HPV?

Hi,

I was wondering I you could provide some expert advice.

I received very brief (30 seconds) fellatio outside of my relationship (man from a women). Due to extreme guilt I got tested for two weeks after the event – all negative. I was advised against testing for HPV and Herpes because the odds are apparently 1 in a 1million risk but I am now worried that I should have been based on what I’ve read on the internet. I have been checking my manhood every day and the slightest visual changes and started to worry.

I have a few questions that I would really appreciate answering:

1. I contracted genital warts 8 years ago from sex which results in the wart frozen off (no symptoms since). I have read on the internet that once you contract HPV it stays with you and can flare up in the future and be passed on?
2. Can you catch HPV twice from the exposure I had?
3. My girlfriend contract herpes before I met her. I have never caught it off her from what I know but I have developed a cold sore on my bottom lip. May be a silly question but can I catch herpes on my lip from receiving Fellatio on my penis?

I appreciate your expert advice and look forward to any comments?

Thanks again howard.

My intial exposure was over 2 months ago now but i occasionally find myself worrying over the accuracy of my test ( i dont know why). You may think im overreacting but i have one last question.

I completed both blood testing for other Std's and NAAT testing for clymdia and gonorrhea. How accurate are they?

Thanks Howard. I really appreciate your advice.

The internet can sometimes send people into a panic.

Can I now safety assume then that if I ever do get warts again (hopefully not), it will be from old virus not new?

HPV is not transmitted by oral sex, or only rarely. Also, when HPV causes warts, they usually don't show up until 6 months or later. There is no HPV test that can detect infection only 2 weeks earlier. Finally, having had warts before, you'll probably never get them again -- if you do, it will be from recurrence of your old warts, not catching new ones.

1) True, but late recurrence of warts is rare. Don't worry about it.

2) Unlikely; see above. And not from oral sex.

3) No, herpes occurs only at the point of sexual contact.
