Unsanitary Procedure

Around sometime in April I had a biopsy performed on me to check for HSV. I had small white cyst like features on my scrotum. The test was done and came back fine. My problem was during the biopsy the doctor didn't exactly perform everything in the most sterile way. I was sterilized with whatever liquid is used during a procedure but what he did during it was not sanitary. His tools were placed on a metal tray with no paper on it. He frequently left the room during the procedure and did not change his gloves. And finally when he was cleaning my scrotum with paper cloth he threw the cloth away in a trash can with a swivel lid. Therefore having to touch the swivel door and inserting his hand in the trash. I can only guess what other bio-hazrd material was in there. Because of my insecurity I did not speak up and had let him perfom all of this.

Prior to this I tested Positive for LVG. The LVG had been in my body for some time and was in its ladder stages. I took Doxycycline and unfortunatly I do not remember the name of the last pill I took for the rectal inflamation. I used to have horrible pains in my penis, stomach, anus, and thighs when I had an erection or ejaculated. Those occurences have mostly gone away. I still have an occasional daily pain in my penis which is spurred by nothing. The doctor told me that it could be psychosomatic (this was before the biopsy) and I wonder now thatthe pain has come back because of the thought of everything.

Now to my new symptoms. About a month after the biopsy I had the flu for about four days. Two months later i began having intense soreness throughout my whole body. Mostly in my arms, rib cage, arm pits, and joints of my hands. The severe pain has gone, but to this day i am still sore in my sides, arms, and back. This pain is usually more predominant in the morning and slows down as the day goes by. Also around this time i had a rash on both sides of my thighs in my groin area.

This worried me, so a month ago I was tested for HIV,Chylamida,Gonneria, and Syphilis. All were negative. I was given a cream for the rash and it went away. But the itching and the burning has increases since then. Also a week ago I started to get red blothes on the inside of my buttocks. It is red all the way down to my anus but it does not itch or burn there. It is only burning and itching at the fire top of the crack of my buttocks. Where also most of the red blotches and bumps are. Am i crazy? Do i have new diseases from this procedure? Possibly anal warts? Sorry this is so sloppy and unorganzied but I am in a hurry. Thank you very much.

From your description, I'm not convinced the provider used improper sanitary technique during your biopsy--but if he did, it certainly doesn't explain any of the other problems you describe.  None of your symptoms is suspicious for any kind of infection and almost certainly were coincidental to that procedure.  As you have been told, they indeed are strongly suggestive of a psychosomatic origin.

Presumably you mean LGV (lymphogranuloma venereum).  I have to be skeptical of that diagnosis.  A blood test alone is not sufficient to diagnose LGV; the blood test is notoriously unreliable, and you don't describe any symptoms that suggest LGV.  It is a vanishingly rare diagnosis in industrialzied countries.  In 30+ years in a busy STD clinic, I have never seen a case.  The most common form of LGV today is as a rectal infection in gay men, and even that is very rare.

As to your current symptoms (rash of the thighs and groin, body aches, red blotches and bumps, etc), they don't suggest any STD, or any infection you could have acquired in a doctor's office.  Return to your provider if you remain concerned about them, or find a new provider if you aren't convinced your current one is doing a proper job.  (If you are certain the red blotches and bumps are abnormal, you might want to see a dermatologist.)  But be prepared for the near-certainty that whoever you see is going to be suspicious of an emotional origin for many of your symptoms, if not all of them.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Also, could the LVG still be lingering in my body? Thank you.
