Help Losing It

Doctor:  I have a few questions related to testing.

First, would one (1) 500mg pill of amoxycilin (sp) taken at 9 weeks after last exposure and one (1) 500mg pill of amoxycilin taken at 14 weeks after an exposure cure gonereha, syphlis or clamydia? Second, would it throw off a test result if taken 6 weeks before?

The reason I ask is not for self diagnosis, but to ensure that if I had something I have not passed it to anyone.  My situation is that I went to my doctor 4 weeks after my last exposure and asked him to check for STD's.  He drew blood and urine and told me three days later I had no worries.  I went back a month later and had him recheck my urine.  He called later and said it was clean.  Needless to say I was relieved; however, when I went back later for other things I asked him what test he ran and he said none - he was just looking for abnormalities as he did'nt think I had any STDs.

Naturally I went into panic.  I then was tested (4.5 months) after last exposure and it was negative.  To confirm I had a second test done (5 months after) and it was negative as well.  I then woke up in a sweat one morning remembering the anti-biotics mentioned above for a minor tooth flare up.  I dont feel I can trust my doctor so I am coming to you.

I am married (28 years)and on business trips two times received personal help from an escort.  The situations were receptive oral and manual stimulation.  I am in counseling for the guilt but am trying to save my marriage.  Needless to say, telling her she has an STD will not help.  Thank you so much for listening to me

Why did you "naturally" panic after being told you weren't infected?  The screening test(s) the doctor did on your urine was good reassurance and the exposures you describe were extremely low risk.  The antibiotics you took made no difference one way or another.

Follow through with your counseling; that sounds to me like the main need.  You can be confident you didn't acquire an STD from the exposure you describe.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Dr: Thanks for the reply.  I am a bit Southern so help me -- are you saying the antibiotics had no impact (neither cured nor skewed the test) and I can rely on the test result?  I really would appreciate your answer as I want to put this whole thing behind me.

Also, I did not panic initially when told I was "not infected".  My panic started three months later when he said he did not run any test for STDs.  After reading your comments that you have to specifically test, I decided to ask him what he ran.  That is when he informed me that he did not run any.  I know, stupid on my part, but I have never been through this before.  The counseling is helping and I recommend it to anyone who needs this.

Sorry, meant to add I am a man, 53 years of age, and the encounters were with females.
