genital herpes

Here is my question. had unprotected vaginal sex with a women 13 days after exposure i noticed a single red bump/lesion about an inch from the base of my penis was not raised or hurt to touch still there after ten days so i squeezed it and some blood came out now a scab has formed.the women i had sex with I think has genital herpes she said she was tested and her results came back equivocal.if she is newly positive for genital herpes does this but me at greater risk?and does the symptoms I described sound like a first time outbreak.

the 1.0 result is in the eqivocable range and is often falsely so.  I suppose it could be going up but this is unusual.  No, an inital HSV-2 ooutbreak would not cause a HSV-1 recurrence.  EWH

Im confused doctor I thought an igg reading of 1.0 for hsv2 is a positive reading?Could this mean the woman was recently infected and that the igg will soon go up in value? If she was recently infected with hsv2 how much more likely im I to have contracted hsv2 from that one time exposure would it be greater since she was recently infected?Im just really worried I now have a which appears to be one herpes outbreak on my tongue i know i am hsv1 positive have been  since i was a child but have not had a outbreak in years, can a primary infection of hsv2 cause me to have  a hsv1 outbreak? Please help

If I send you our numbers from our  Herpes test, could you tell me how long we've had it?  Thank you.

She is correct, thus you were not exposed to herpes through sex withthis partner.  EWH

Although the nature if the lesion you describe is uncommon and any single exposure is low risk, the initial outbreak of herpes can take many forms, including the single bump you have just described.  Earlier it might have helped to have a culture or PCR test taken from the lesion.  At this time, particularly after squeezing it, testing the sore is unlikely to help.  What you describe sounds more like folliculitis to me than HSV.

It is not clear to me that your partner has HSV.  Most equivocal tests are ultimately found to be negative, not positive.

At this juncture you have relatively few options.  I would wait to see if the lesion recurs and if it does, have it tested. In addition in about 12 weeks if you are really concerned, you might get a type specific IgG blood test for HSV.  If it were me however, I would not worry about it unless it recurs.  EWH
