Metronadazole vs Ketoconazole

My partner was advised she likely had Trichomonas.  She recieved medical treatment Ketonazole 100mg.  I went to my doctor and was tested and at the same time was given metronadazole.  About a week later I heard from my doctor who said I showed no signs of having Trichomonas.  The doctor said that sometimes this is normal in males because it is hard to detect.

My question is can ketoconazole be used to treat Trichomonas.  In other words can it be used in the same way as metronadzole to treat protozoa.

Thank you

Mark

Ketoconazole is therapy for fungal (yeast) infections, not for trichomoniasis.  Metronidazole, which you took is the appropriate therapy.  Alternately there is a drug called tinidazole which is also highly effective for treatment of trich.

That your tests were negative is not suprising.  As your doctor correctly told you, trich is difficult to diagnose in men.  Treating you was the right thing to do.

Your GF needs to be treated with effective therapy other than ketoconazole before you have sex again.  EWH
