What is your view on my present condition of health? I am anxious on any potential HIV Infection.

Welcome to the Forum. Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum and answer questions based on our availability.  As it happens, I will be answering your question.  For better or worse, clients are not able to request a response from one or the other of us and once someone receives a response from one of us, the other will not chime in.  This approach allows us to assist more MedHelp clients.  FYI, part of the basis for our partnership is that while our verbal styles may differ, Dr. Handsfield and I have worked together for more than 30 years and have never come to different conclusions in our advice to MedHelp clients.

The tests that you describe, both on Feb. 14 and March6 are 4th generation HIV tests which test for both the HIV p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV.  These tests provide conclusive results 28 days after exposure. Thus your negative test on March 6 is conclusive and proves that you did not get HIV from your exposure on January 31.  You can move forward without concern and do not need further testing.  EWH

Final answer.  The combination of a p24 antigen and an HIV antibody test are definitive and are a 4th generation assay.  Whomever you spoke with is incorrect.

This will end this thread.  No further comments or answers.  EWH

When I asked to the labotory expart he told me that the test was indeed a 3rd generation test but they confirm that the test was included for both P24 antigen and antibody.

Following is the exact specification:

Detection of P24 antigen and antibody to HIV 1 and/or HIV 2 (CMIA architect abott)

What is you view.

Pleasse be patient. There was no reason to repeat your question.

No, your medicine for gonorrhea treatment would not have any effect on your HIV test.  EWH
