Risk - Help

Doctors.  Thank you for all of your wise advice.  I had an exposure to a sex worker a few weeks ago and I am very scared.  I am a male.  She licked my inner thighs and scrotem and then she put on a condom and performed oral sex.  Then I had vaginel sex on top of her and then we switched positions and then I finished.  I noticed that she had a half inch scab shaped like an oval just under her belly button and I think one on her shoulder and maybe also she has one on her neck.  I could not see if there were any other ones as we were in the dark but I felt these with my hands.  I did not touch myself after touching these things.  Do you think her sores were from HIV or herpes?  She removed the condom and then I cleaned myself off with soap and water.  I am really very scared right now.  What is my exposure risks? Do these sores make things more dangerous? What tests do i need to have? Please give me good advice.  Thank you for your wisdom.

Sorry, I'm not going to recommend tests that I believe are not warranted.  In fact, I agree with the approach you ascribe to "most doctors", i.e. limited testing based on exposure history.  Routine testing for men without symptoms rarely should go beyond gonorrhea and chlamydia (usually by urine, sometimes rectal or throat swabs depending on exposure history) and blood tests for syphilis and HIV.  As I said above, you don't even need these, based on the sexual exposure described above.

Dr. HHH.  Thank you for your wise thoughts.  I am still concerned.  Can you tell me what tests should i be getting if I want assurance? Is there a full list of what tests to take and when? It seems like most doctors do not offer all of the tests unless you ask.  Thank you for your help and wisdom.

I saw this comment before I replied above.  It doesn't change anything.

Welcome to the STD forum.

You are overreacting to an event that carried no appreciable risk of STD. You had condom-protected sex, including the oral exposure -- which is low risk even without a condom.  Wound causing scabs in the locations you mention do not suggest any STD.  You do not need any STD testing.  If you have a regular sex partner, that person is not at risk and it is safe to continue unprotected sex with him or her (assuming you have had no other STD risks not described here).

Really, mellow out.  This was not a risky exposure.  That's what condoms are for!

Regards--  HHH, MD

I forgot to mention that the whole thing took about 5 minumtes, maybe 10 at the most.  It was not too vigorous so I am not sure how much we were rubbing against each other except for the genitals
