Oral herpes is not considered a std. It's incredibly common and not many of us make it to the old folks home without it. By the time we are 40 - 60% of our peers have hsv1 orally.
It's totally up to you how you want to deal with talking about this with your partners. Some folks don't ever mention. Some discuss it even before the first kiss. Others do something in between. I myself am an inbetweener - I don't talk about it for kissing but I do bring it up when I am having my whole std talk with a potential partner.
It's definitely worthwhile asking future partners to get tested for herpes to know their status. If they are also hsv1+ then it's not an issue. If they are negative - discuss whether you both think barrier protection for oral sex is worthwhile or not. Of course if they are hsv2+ then your hsv1 is also not an issue.
