So I assumed. Sorry about MedHelp's overly conservative language software.
Thank you Doctor. Very helpful.
Welcome back to the STD forum.
No STD causes the sort of genital area irritation, redness, and itching like this. Your description is entirely consistent with a local fungal infection (jock itch) or other superficial infection, such as staph/strep, a condition called erythrasma, or simply nonspecific irritation due to exercise, sweating, etc.
I recommend local hygiene only, i.e. wash with soap and water twice daily, dry well, and use a drying powder like talcum powder or cornstarch in your underware. If that doesn't start to clear things up in 2-3 days, you could try an over-the-counter preparation for jock itch, like Lamisil or any of the other products you'll find on the same shelves of the pharmacy. (Hydrocortisone usually is a mistake, because it makes fungal infections worse, not better.) If these measures don't clear it up, see a health care provider for professional evaluation.
Since this obviously isn't an STD and that's the only topic for this forum, I won't have any further comments after this reply (unless you see a health professional who suspects an STD after all). Also, for future reference please note that MedHelp permits a maximum of 2 questions every 6 months on each of the professionally moderated forums (see Terms and Conditions) and this is your second. A word to the wise so you don't risk losing your posting fee on another question that would be deleted without response.
