Red itchy bump on penis....

About two weeks ago, I first recieved unprotected oral sex from a prostitute, then had protected vaginal intercourse. A few days after the incident, I noticed a red pimple like mark on my penis. It was basically at the very beginning of my base, right after my pubic hair. I did not think much of it, but as days went by, I started to become very itchy in that area. Not directly on the mark, but more on the sides of my base. My scrotum and pubic hair region also became itchy, with my scrotum also becoming red. I saw my dermatoligist last Wed. for a regular checkup and brought this matter up to him. He took a good look at it with a magnifying glass and under ample lighting, and concluded that it was nothing more than a pimple as a result of the heat, sweat, and friction. He gave me an anti-itch lotion by the name of Cortaid, that I only used a few times. A few days after I saw him, I noticed another pimple looking mark, similar to the one I still had, but not as big and infact next to it. The past few days, the itching has stopped, but I noticed I had devloped a pain in my inner groin on both sides in the same exact spot. I read somewhere that if one does have Herpes the glands in the groin if I'm correct become tender like mine are right now. Infact they are very when I touch them and hurt when I am just sitting. Also today, I felt hotter than usual at work where I am usually comfortable. And today when I urinated, it felt somewhat tight in my lower stomach area, but I wouldn't say it was painful and this only happened twice. Also since Sunday, I have had somewhat of a "stitch" in my stomach that hurts when I cough or take deep breaths. As far as the pimples which I have about 2-3 now, they seem to have scabbed over on their own, but are still somewhat visible. They did not cause any pain what so ever, but just made the sides of my base itch alot. Now, I hope I am not at risk for anything as I have read that oral sex once is not high risk and I also hope this is nothing from the past as I have not had oral nor intercourse for the past 8-10 months. I do hope however, that this is just me getting worked up over nothing. Do you think I am at risk for anything or better yet should I get tested? Thanks for your time.

While this post is 4 years old...I going to comment anyway for anyone else reading this needing additional information. What you are describing here IS ABSOLUTELY HERPES! There is no question as to that fact...and 4 years later, I am sure you know that to be true. The only real question is as to where this quack Dr. HHH received his degree! A true MD would not tiptoe around the truth to make a patient feel better, when has that EVER helped anyone?! And what MD would bow to a dermatologist?! Okay so, to set the record straight...swollen and tender glands in and around the groin, coupled with, and we'll call them what they are, outbreaks, is a 100% positive sign of Genital Herpes.

I haven't a clue, not knowing the definite diagnosis or how you are being treated.  That's a question for one or both of the health care providers for the problem.

When do you think all this will pass, and anything to speed it up?

Lymphadenopathy (lymph node inflammation) in the groin occurs with any inflammatory conditions near the groin:  herpes, staph, folliculitis, and anything else causing irritation or soreness.  The enlargements you feel do not make it any more likely that herpes explains your symptoms.

"Swollen lymph glands in the groin" (http://www.epigee.org/guide/herpes.html)....This is what I was talking about as one of the symptoms. Its as if I have two lumps on each inner groin, near my penis that are painful to touch. This is the only reason, I still think I maybe have something, or maybe you can tell me otherwise what it is. I try not to think about it, but the pain is still there and I have never noticed these "lumps" before. Another thing, you say oral sex is a low risk, and I'm not going against your reasoning, but I did not know this woman and she would have had open cold sores on her lips or in her mouth. If oral sex was such a low risk, I'm sure everyone would be doing it then, and again I'm not trying to sound disrespectful in anyway, but would just like a further explanation. As far as the marks on my penis, there seems as if another one has formed even more red and plump, the other ones seem to have gone down and are less red but are still visible. It seems as if though everytime I engage in any type of sexual activity I always break out in something, so I'm just starting to wonder. Thanks once again for everything.

To some extent, the major issue is exactly reflected in your own statement "I do hope however, that this is just me getting worked up over nothing."  Whenver someone suspects that about him/her self, almost always they are right!

You have seen 2 providers, including a dermatologist.  I cannot compete with such expert opinion from someone who actually has examined you. Thus, my conclusion is that you have what the dermatologist said.  In any case, you description sounds much more like a pimple (or folliculitis) than it does herpes.  And the risk of any STD from receiving oral sex is low.  Finally, your other symptoms (stomach "stitch", discomfort in the groin) are not symptoms of any STD.

From what you say, I see no reason for testing for STDs.  But you really should follow your own docs' advice.  If they have recommendations that conflict with mine, theirs are the ones to follow.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
