This is a pimple or sebaceous cyst, not herpes. Herpes lesions don't have a hair emanating from them, and the contents also don't suggest herpes. I see no need for testing.
Hi Doctor, I don't know what the rules are for asking additional questions but if I need to pay for a new post I will be happy to do so. A few days ago I noticed some mild itching in the same region that i asked you about a few months ago. Yesterday, I noticed a small red bump with a white-ish looking head, in the itchy region (at the very base of my penis on the right hand side). I assumed it to be a clogged pore as there was a hair coming out of the center of it. Today as I was examining it the head "opened" and I decided to pop it at that point. What came out wasn't as dry or as dense as a typical whitehead but it wasn't watery like I would expect from a blister, also there was no bleeding. Just wanted to get your thoughts and if you thought I should pursue any sort of testing? Thanks.
You're welcome. Thanks for the thanks.
Thank you for the response, it helped me a lot!
Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.
In reading your question, I knew I would be able to reassure you that you have no STD, before getting to your sexual historry toward the end. STDs rarely if ever show up primarily as inflamed skin in the groin. You describe very typical symptoms of a garden variety dermatitis -- often a superficial bacterial or fungal infection, which often start in the fold of the groin. (Such infections are especially common in overweight people, where there often is poor air circulation where the folds of tissues are in constant contact.) And the slight irritation or a little redness closer to your penis also isn't suggestive of any STD.
Although I hope that if I were able to examine you personally I would come up with something more helpful than "just one of those things" -- but I am very sure no STD is the cause. And going back to your sexual history, your most recent contacts carried little or no risk for any STD that conceivably could cause such symptoms. Certainly frottage couldn't do it, and the time since either exposure is too long for any of the STDs.
So my advice is to keep the area clean and dry; if the symptoms worsen or persist or you otherwise remain concerned, return to your doctor; or if not satisfied with his or her advice, perhaps a dermatologist. In the meantime, I wouldn't worry at all about any STD and do not recommend testing.
Best wishes-- HHH, MD
