I had unprotected oral sex 4 weeks ago. I had no mouth contact with this person. The next day I had burning when I urinated and my throat started to get sore. The burning got better after 3 or 4 days but I still have a slight burn after I urinate and my throat is still sore. I got tested 24 days afterwards for Chlamydia/GC [ urine test that was after 12 hrs ] and blood test for Hep A,B,C, HIV, Herpes 1 & 2. All came back negetive except Herpes 1 and they say I may have contacted that when I was a child. I have no sores on my penis or mouth that I can see and no discharges from my penis. Have not had any type of sex since for fear I may give someone STD. Could it be possible that I may have some type of STD that is causing this problem?
Thanks

Everybody has a row of prominent taste buds on the back of the tongue; they are normal.  Your HSV-1 has nothing to do with them, or with your sore throat.  Stop worrying about this.

I continue to believe you caught no STD, or any other infection, during the oral sex event you describe.  Your symptoms are not typical for any STD.  As for your test results, the gonorrhea and chlamydia results are valid (although chlamydia is rarely if ever acquired by oral sex anyway), but all the blood tests were done too early; 6 to 12 weeks is required to develop measurable antibodies to syphilis, HSV, and HIV.  And of course HSV-2 and HIV are rarely if ever acquired by oral sex, so those tests also were unnecessary.

You clearly have HSV-1, but just as clearly you didn't acquire it during the oral sex event.  Oral herpes probably explains the sores on your lips.  (Cold sores do not occur inside the mouth.  Those probably were canker sores, which are not caused by HSV.)

Your genital symtpoms remain most consistent anxiety making you notice normal body sensations that don't indicate anything wrong at all.  However, if they continue, see a health care provider.  Don't do any more testing without in-person medical guidance; as I said above, you have been overtested already, at considerably more cost than was necessary.

Welcome to the forum.  Bottom line:  I doubt you have any STD.

No STD can start to cause symptoms "the next day" (24 hr or less) after exposure; 2-3 days is the minimum for virtually any infection.  Onset of painful urination that quickly pretty much has to be the result of chemical or physical irritation or allergy, e.g. from spermicide or soap used to wash afterward.  And sore throat cannot be an STD symptom if the mouth was not exposed by kissing or oral sex.  Or perhaps it's all psychological; genitally focused anxiety, after a regretted sexual experience, is a common explanation for such symptoms.

Given the nature of your exposure and symptoms, you were over-tested; there certainly was no need for hepatitis or HSV testing.  (My guess is you got sucked into an STD test "panel" by an online testing service, many of which offer much more testing than is necessary after a single exposure -- at substantial expense.  In the future, you'll probably find it a lot cheaper to visit your local health department STD clinic.)

I can't tell from your question whether you still are having urinary discomfort or sore throat.  If so, visit a doctor or clinic for direct evaluation.  If not, I suggest you stop worrying about this.  I'm sure it is entirely safe for you to have sex with new partners or any regular partner(s) you may have.

Thanks. Would HSV-1 have anything to do with my sore throat and the bumps on the back of my tongue? Is the only way for me to give someone HSV-1 is if I have a sore on my lips or feel one coming? Thanks again for all your information. Do you know if there is anything  over-the-counter to take for a sore throat? If I can't get this cleared up soon I guess I 'll see a Dr. somewhere. Nice to have someone on line to talk too. This will probably be my last post on this as I believe I have most verything answered. Appreciate all you do...

My symptoms in 24 hours was redness on my penis. The next day ( day 2 ) is when my urine started to burn which let up after 4 days or so. Had oral sex on July 8th and had STD test done on August 1st. Would like to know if this was to early for an accurate test? This is August 16th and I still have a small discomfort after I urinate and a little tingling at the head of my penis which I don't know if it is becausae I am always thinking of it. I still have a sore throat. I can see small bumps on the back of my tongue. All my test came back negative for T pallidum antibodies, HSV-2, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and HIV. I know this was probably an over kill for test but I wanted a little peace of mind that didn't really work. I have no sores or discharge on or around my penis and the color seems to be good. I was tested positive for oral herpes-1. Results was 5.86. When I was little I would get cold sores on my lips and some inside my mouth. Have not had any for a long time. The last two times I had cold sores was when I would drink a large glass of orange juice each morning for 3 days.  Don't know when I contacted this for sure since I was never tested for STD before. My concerns are the little discomfort after I urinate , the tingling and the sore throat. Do you think any of this is from contacting something for the unprotected oral sex? My mouth and hands never made contact with the person that gave me the oral sex.
