Shingles and genital herpes

I had shingles 7 years ago.  I was tested for genital herpes recently and was told it was positive.  Is it possible that having shingles in the past caused the test to read positive for herpes

You can also get hsv1 genitally, so if your test wasn't typed, it should be.

Sorry, they are actually different viruses. Genital herpes is herpes simplex 2, the herpes that causes fever blisters is herpes simplex 1. The virus that causes shingles is actually varicella zoster, the same one that causes chickenpox. Thus, when they test you for one, it can't be confused with another.
