Somewhat sore testicles, but not always

by StillUnsure, May 19, 2008 10:52PM
Less than a month ago I participated in, what on here has been called a low-risk activity involving vaginal fluids on my penis.

This past Friday, I itched my left testicle and got a bit of pain.  Since then my testicles began to hurt a little, not a lot, just discomfort like being lightly flicked or stuck in tight underwear too long.  It's not real "pain", more occasional discomfort- annoying than anything.  I notice it more when I wear tight underwear, and am sitting.  The left one hurts most often, but sometimes the right one hurts also.

I have read that it can be a sign of gonnorhea.  But that it may take several months after the sexual encounter that causes the STD to appear. I've read that in some cases, the man first has symptoms of an infected urethra, such as an abnormal discharge from the penis or a burning sensation when urinating. In other cases, what I've described is the first and only signs of an STD

How long would one have it before the testicles began to hurt, is it a primary symptom or after ones had it for a while?  I've never noticed any other symptoms like puss-like discharge or problems urinating...

When I feel around with my hand, nothing hurts.  I even felt behind the testicle like I read online, but no pain  Is that normal with an std?  I thought I'd feel pain in an infected area... Sometimes my penis head throbs a bit too, but I can't feel pain when I touch it.  Dunno.  I'd love it to be anxiety which has been the answer lots on here...  but it feels too real. Maybe.  Had std test in the past, negative for chlamyttia, I don't think I was tested for gon.

When persons without medical training or experience read lists of symptoms, they typically cannot put things in context.  This is why reading such symptoms often is a poor way for people to judge what might be causing their own symptoms.

It is true that gonorrhea can cause testicular pain which can some on quite a long time after catching the infeciton is true.  But there is no chance that what you have is gonorrhea or epididymitis (testicular infection) due to any other infection.  To have gonorrhea you need an exposure that can transmit it, getting "vaginal fluids on my penis" (probably by hand-genital contact?) is not sufficient.  Ditto for chlamydia and other STDs as well.  Second, it is rare to have gonorrhea without urethritis -- i.e. with symptoms of dripping pus and painful urination; those symptoms show up within a week of catching it.  Third, people with epididymitis also have swelling and tenderness of the testicle to the touch.  Many have fever as well.  Finally, epididymitis pain does not come and go; it is severe and continuous until it is treated.

In summary, the symptoms you describe are not due to any STD or to any other infection from the low risk sexual exposure that occurred a few weeks earlier.  If your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concerned, see your health care provider.  If you have been sexually active (i.e., unprotected vaginal, oral, or anal sex) in the past year, you might want to be tested for common STDs.  But not because of these symptoms or the low risk exposure event.

I hope this helps.  Best wishes-  HHH, MD

To clarify less than a month:  25 days

Also, when I first wake up in the morning and I lay in bed, I don't feel the above much, but once I'm up and walk around, it slowly comes back.

Thank you.  This board is amazing.

Thank you for your detailed answer... great and very informative!  No idea what could be causing my off and on sore testicles, assumed I caught gon.  I thought it could make it into my urethra  via vaginal secretions like that other guy on here talked about or even through the membrane itself.

Almost as punishment for doing something very dumb.

Any other STD or other thoughts I should consider?  Other thoughts in general?

Can never get it all in one freaking post!

Also, the tip of my penis has an odd feeling... not pain, again, "DISCOMFORT"

A SINCERE Thank you!

I don't know how to interpret an "odd feeling".  If you think something is abnormal, see a provider.  There is no point in trying to figure it out by online searching or questions.  I won't have anything more to say.
