UTIs are not sexually transmitted but intercourse can cause a UTI just like cystexteam said.

This happened to me.  The symptoms I developed were soreness in the abdominal area to the point even a short walk had me feeling soooo sore as if I ran a marathon, frequent peeing, sweats at night, I mean it was bad.  I think Ampicillin was prescribed to me and it cleared it right up.

Sexual relations can sometimes trigger an infection.  While UTIs are not sexually transmitted, increased friction in the feminine area can push more bacteria into the urethra than would normally be there, resulting in infection.

UTIs are often uncomfortable and very painful, but please note that you are not alone - as many as 8.3 Americans visit their doctors annually for this condition!  If you are looking for good information about the condition, or wish to post questions to physicians about general urinary health, visit this revamped and resourceful Web site – www.cystex.com.

And it would be a great help to those of us who answer these questions if we can keep all your questions to one thread.

Thanks.  :)

A UTI is not an std.  That happens when bacteria enters your bladder.  Its very common in women, because of the anatomy.

Men can get UTIs, but its not as common.

If you google urinary tract infection or bladder infection, you will find more info.
