A related discussion,
vaginal cuts was started.
I went to the doctors and had a repeat HSV1&2 test, the findings were the same. Positive to Hsv-1, negative to type two. She also did a Pap tesy at the time and it came back showing I have a staph infection down there. So hopefully that is what is causing all of the soarness and so forth. I will likely get another HIV test just to have peace of mind. I hope they are right and it is only a Staph infection. Since I performed oral sex on my partner at that time, and then obviously received a vaginal staph infection. What is the risk of passing that staph infection on via open mouth kissing, or caressing of each persons genitalia? No insertion of any type though? Oh well do the questions ever end. Thank you for all of your time and efforts, you made many restlessness nights at least bearable.
I went back to get a Herpes blood test done, if this comes back negative at 4 months since exposure is it safe to assume that tesy is enough and not to retest again?I also had an aids test done last month the three month point, it was negative should I be tested again. Unfortunately my partner( only that one time I was with him) is a high risk individual. I found out after the fact he is bisexual. Thanks
A negative HSV blood test 4 months after exposure will be highly reliable. It takes longer in a few percent of cases, but your symptoms are sufficiently unlike herpes that I would consider a 4 month result to be definitive.
The risk of HIV is low for one-time sex with a person at high risk, even if he had it; and a negative HIV test 3 months after exposure is 100% reliable.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to help much. With all the examinations and testing you have had, without a clear answer, there is no way I can sort it out from an online description. Although the vaginal "fissures" sound consistent with herpes, the other symptoms you describe do not at all suggest herpes. I agree with your doctor about the interpretation of the HSV blood test results, but the test was a bit too soon; sometimes it takes 3 months. But your symptoms are so unlike herpes that I will be surprised if another test shows anything different than the first one.
There is no STD in the world (and almost no infections at all) that can cause symptoms in less than 24 hours after exposure, so your initial fever and flu-like symptoms almost certainly are just coincidental with the sexual exposure you describe. Whether the vaginal symptoms are related to that event, however, I just can't say. If not yet done, it would be wise to get in touch with your partner and ask him if he has had any problems or, better yet, ask him to be examined by a provider knowledgeable about STDs.
Nothing that causes vaginal discharge and other symptoms like yours can be transmitted by sharing drinking cups and eating utensils, or through any other household conatact. Dont worry about your daughter's health. In the meantime, continue to follow up with your health care provider; or if uncertain about his or her expertise, ask for referral for another opinion--for example, from an ObG who specializes in infectious diseases.
Good luck-- HHH, MD
