Welcome to the forum.
It is rare for genital warts to recur more than a year after removal. Even if untreated, your warts probably would have cleared up within several months, maybe up to 2 years, never to reappear. While recurrence several years later does sometimes happen, it is quite rare. You should not be at all worried about it.
I hope this helps. Best wishes-- HHH, MD
Thanks very much. I have however developed a growth on the back of my calf muscle that looks similar to a wart. Rough, grey/black in color. But, from what I've read this can in no way be related to the previous infection?
Also, why are there so many wildly varying opinions about hpv? I would be interested to see stats on method of removal vs. rate of recurrence.
Your calf lesion could be any number of things, but that location is atypical for a wart. The most common cause of a "rough, grey/black" lesion is called a seborrheic keratosis, which is not due to HPV. It probably is nothing serious, but I suggest you see your primary care physician or a dermatologist.
It would take a long essay to answer why there are "so many wildly varying opinions" about HPV. In fact, if you limit your searching to professional, science-based sources, there isn't all that much disagreement. In any case, there is absolutely no disagreement that warts rarely recur after several years.
Feel free to let me know the diagnosis after the calf lesion has been professionally evaluated. Until then, there's nothing more I can say.
