red blotchy skin on the shaft of my penis

Around 3 years ago I discovered i had a genital wart. I went to my local doctor and he suggested it might go away on its own. Indeed it seemed to dissapear and i paid no more attention to it. About 2 years ago i noticed a strange swollen purple growth around the base of the head of my penis. I paid it no attention and ignored it. it then started to spread slowly but surely. It looked red and fiery but gave me no pain. Eventually sometimes when i had finished urinating i would feel a stinging sensation. The skin has become more scaly and it feels dull to the touch. But there is no real pain when i touch it. its more fiery looking after masturbation or sex. I found out an old sexual partner of mine became infected with inflammation of the pelvis. Im sure i caused this. I went to the hospital about 3 weeks ago. They did no tests upon me and said it was a natural change. I feel they didnt take it seriously enough. Now it looks as if its getting worse and i dont know what to do.

Is it chlamydia, or a strain of the HPV virus or is it even cancer? Im worried....please help to put my mind at some kind of ease.

If a health care provider thought the changes in appearance of your penis were "natural", then almost certainly they are.  Your symptoms don't sound like HPV, warts, or any other STD.

Presumably "old sexual partner" means more than a few weeks ago, perhaps years ago?  It sounds like she had PID.  If you had sex with her recently, and if her PID was recent, then you need testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea.  But your symptoms aren't due to gonorrhea or chlamydia.

If you're not happy with the opinion of the health care provider who examined you, get a second opinion from a dermatologist or at your local health department STD clinic.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Sorry, as it says on the STD forum home page, new problems have to be posted as new questions; can't respond in teh comments section.  But it sounds like you shoud see a health care provider and show him/her the "bump".
