The list of what causes false positive test results is enormous and in many cases it is not known. This reflects person to person variation, It is not a sign of "exposure". EWH
What cuases the false positive? Does that mean I may have come in contact with someone who was positive?
Welcome back to the Forum. As Dr. Handsfield told you in October, the majority (80-90%) of repeatedly equivocal HSV-2 HerpeSelect results are falsely positive. This is most likely your situation. If you would like to be completely sure I would suggest you either get tested with a BioKit assay or Western blot. The Biokit is quicker and cheaper. If it is negative, you do not have HSV. the Western blot is the "gold standard of HSV blood tests and must be sent by the lab to the University of Washington. It takes several weeks to come back. EWH
