possible UTI and risk of STI/STD

30/f, last STD/STI full workup Oct 2011 - all negative. Last sex encounter May 2011, just had sex on 1/18. presented 2 symptoms of concern. might be nothing but need to ask. situation - protected sex with partner after no sex for 7 months (had last slept together in May). Only sexual encounters before 1/18 were giving/receiving oral
&manual stimulation with 2 other males. ZERO vaginal penetration. sex on Jan 18th, no discomfort during sex, but lubrication was lacking @times. history of swelling, tearing, and spotting after no sex for months. late urination after sex on 1/18.
24-30 hrs after sex notice a very small (less than eraser on a pencil) mark inside my vagina. Below the urethra opening and above vaginal opening. It was a deep red and purple colouration. not raised, skin not broken, zero pain, no burning, no issuess peeing, nothing. Even used a mirror and brushed finger over it and applied slight pressure nothing! mark almost looked like broken blood vessels or a blood blister. But not rasied. no spotting but discharge was ever so slightly off colour. i had just finished my period on the 16th.

mark noticed morning of 20th, and by the night of 22nd almost gone, some light red colouring only. no scab or crust with healing. Only other thing is urine has only slight yellowing colour, almost clear, but very slightly cloudy. have seen my urine go amlost clar when drinking more water. Change in urine was noticed late Jan 21 and on 22.

@doctors tonight, the mark is now pretty much gone (doctor could barley see it).doctor tested my urine and said that nitrites were detected which =infection. Do i have cause for concern for any STI or STDs from the 18th encounter? Could i have gotten something from the non-vaginal encounters? one was on a beach Dec 29, sand everywhere, possible tiny amount inside. what is the risk of passing something on to my partner when protection used all times? Not even vagina to penis contact without underwear between or condom on.

Thank you for your comments. I will have results in a day or two and I'll know where things stand. And based on the single mark, change in urine, early light period and the timing of it all with my sexual history since Oct, you see it as not indicating any STI or STD? That I may or may not have a UTI only.

You have to be the judge of when to see your GYN..  It appears to me that this entire scenario is making you nervous. That being the case, seeing them sooner than later may be a good idea.  Furthermore, in general, it is easier for them to work an extra patient into the schedule at mid-week than late in the eweek. i feel as though i am getting my period. the discharge is not stopping. its not heavy or anything, and i have seen this type of blood before when starting or ending my period. is this normal with morning after pill to get a light period 5 days later? I am not taking any birth control for the last 2 months. Not trying to get pregnent or anything, so thats why i took the morning after pill as a percausion. Have taken morning after before when a condom broke but was on the pill as well then and i had no bleeding in between pill and periods.

i think i am just making myself crazy over nothing. i finally feel comfotable to have sex in over a year and all this happens! i have been neg on all front for the over the last yr and have only had 2 partners for vaginal intercourse.

Even with skin to skin contact, the risk is VERY low.

Your discharge and cramping may very well be a result of having taken the morning after pill.  If it persists you may want to check with your GYN to be sure but that is the most likely diagnosis. EWH

Thank you for your comments. Give me a bit of a piece of mind. But will now for sure in a few days. even if there was some skin ti skin contact with gentials the risk is still very low? Im probably worried over nothing, but after having one scare with HSV 4 yrs ago and one diagnosis of chlamydia over a year ago, after a bf lied about his status, i am just really scared to have sex without thinking i have got something.

now today i woke up with some light brown discharge. looks almost like my period is starting or finishing. there was a small amount of what looked like dark old blood. it has continued through the day so far. could this be the result of taking the morning after pill after sex on the 18th? Is it something else? I am not due for my period until Feb 8th. i have some pressure in uterus (annoying light cramp), but it feels the same as when i am about to start my period.

I am now  just worried about everything!

Welcome back to the Forum. I'll e happy to comment.  the encounters you describe (mutual masturbation, oral sex, protected vaginal sex) were very, very low risk for any STD.  On the other hand, after no sex for some time, a lack of lubrication is not uncommon and this can lead to the sorts of lesions you describe through trauma.  In addition, the mechanical action of intercourse is known to increase a woman's risk for developing urinary tract infections.  My guess is that the lesion you saw was traumatic in origin.  the appearance, setting and time course of resolution are all consistent and you noticed it too soon following sex for it to be an STD.

You may also have a UTI.  The nitrite test is highly correlated with UTIs and it is reasonable for your doctor to treat you based on this finding.

My prediction is that your STD tests will be negative and the urine test may or may not be positive.  Herpes is certainly not a concern.  I would agree with treating you for a UTI.  If you wish to discuss you test results, please don't hesitate to follow up when they are available. EWH
