red bumps

A couple of months ago I started noticing little red bumps on the shaft of my penis and around my pubic area.  The bumps are painless and dont bother me.  I went to a doctor about a month after they appeared and I was told that they are nothing to worry about.  But they seem to keep appearing, getting bigger and they never disappear.  The time that they started appearing I had protected sex.  I tried popping a few that were on my lower stomach area and on the shaft of my penis.  When I did that, the redness and thickness went away to were it just looked like a small mosqutio bite.  I know I probably shouldnt do that but I just want to get rid of these things.

Thanks for the responses. Had the Dr. check it today and she confirmed Molluscum. It's a non-threatening virus that does not recurr. It's from direct contact with another with the virus during an outbreak. Bumps occur where contact was made and are not limited to the groin but that's the most common.  Outbreak can take 6 - 9 months to heal. Not great news but better than some other STD's.

Try squeezing/popping. If a hard white core comes out, and you have brisk bleeding afterwards.....it is probably what Doc mentioned, MC, Moluscum. It is not a big deal, just something you have to deal with for some time. Some people go to dr. or derm to have them taken off, but they can still reappear. I basically took care of my own by popping out the white core, then cleaning/washing so it doesn't spread, then putting antibiotic ointment on. That seems to clear them up. But I have been dealing with it for over 6 months. Although its pretty cleared up now. Good luck.

I've got some red pimple like bumps on my groin (about 10) that I'm concerned about too. Last sex was with a woman 3-4 months before they appeared. She says she has no symptoms.

The bumps are much like small pimples, only on my groin and have lasted for 2 months now. They don't grow to typical puss filled pimples, just small red bumps. No itching, pain or any other symptoms. I have been under a fair amount of stress lately. I can't imagine pimples or stress related skin change would only occur in my groin and am concerned about some kind of STD - just don't want to hassle with Dr if this is something minor.

The only STD that this sounds like it could be is molluscum contagiosum.  See other threads about details about the disease. If it is MC, the lesions should be shiny pink, and some will have a dimple in the center; and when they are unroofed and pressed like a pimple, a hard white core is produced, with fairly brisk bleeding afterward.

But if that doesn't describe what you have, I don't know what it is.  Maybe just folliculitis (hair follicle infection)?  If your doctor wasn't certain, consider a second opinion--such as your local health department STD clinic.

Good luck---   HHH, MD
