sore groin 2 weeks after cure

Hi,

1 month ago I was diagnosed with Gonorrhea after receiving unprotected oral sex. I was put on antibiotics which stopped the dripping from my penis and the stinging, and on a re-visit to the doctor, was told the Gonorrhea is curred. Its now 2 weeks after finishing all the antibiotics. I was prescribed 2 weeks. But I still have a bit of a tender groin sometimes. I also got herpes about 20 years ago and have about 2 outbreaks a year , but seem to be getting a few outbreaks in this last week. Is it typical to have a tender groin after medication has finished.How long could I expect this to last?

I also have an inflamed rectum, which the doctor gave me a cream for which seems to be working. Is it also a part of the Gonorrhea.

Otherwise I feel OK, a bit tired but its probably more from too much work and not enough sleep worrying about the Gonorrhea.

The saga continues, The last 2 days I have had a stinging opening to my urethra, also noticed like a thin red line on the head of my penis and the shaft also had a bit of redness. I dont know why but I applied a cream I had received to stop a yeast infection on my anus, and this seemed to take the redness away. 5 Days ago I had sex with my regular partner for the first time since before I got Gonorrhea from a sex worker. So I figure she does not have Gonorrhea. So I have a red irritaed opening to the urethra, but there is no discharge. Could I have Gonorrhea again? Usually how long after the urethra becomes iritated do you get discharge. Also, it does not really hurt when I urinate, its just a thing at the opening. Could it be a non STD thing? My skin is still itchy on my back and stomach, and I am getting a lot of herpes breakouts too. The lymph nodes in my groin have been continually tender for about 6 weeks now.

Any help you can give is appreciated. I think I might have to talk with my partner about this, but want to be sure first.

As I said above, clearly your symptoms are not due to herpes or any other STD.  It could be tinea cruris (jock itch) but probably not candida (yeast)  --- tinea and yeast both are fungal infections, but different from one another.  In any case, I don't speculate about non-STD diagnoses ---  there just are too many possibilities.

There is no "normal procedure" except to see a health care provider and let him or her figure it out.  If in doubt about the doc's expertise, try to see a dermatologist.

Hi, Thanks for the comments the other day. I think I do have a yeast infection (Candida) as I am getting jock itch and what look like herpes, but are maybe the candida. I am also getting itchy skin on my stomach and lower back. As I am a westerner in Japan, it is a bit hard to talk with Doctors sometimes. I also have cold feet and hands a lot and energy is a bit low. Might be from not sleeping so well with worry? Does this sound like a yeast infection? What would the normal proceedure be ? If I have a bit of basic knowledge , it will help when I go to a Japanese doctor I think.

I wish I could help, but I cannot explain the continuing pain in your groin.  (I assume there is no language barrier here.  "Groin" is the area where the thigh meets the abdomen.)  If there is obvious swelling and a tender spot, you might have an inflamed lymph node -  but if so, it probably has nothing to do with the gonorrhea.  The rectal itching might be due to a  yeast infection, which can be triggered by antibiotics, especially when they are taken for as long as 2 weeks.  It is easily treated and not serious.

Japan has the world's biggest problem with cephalosporin resistant gonorrhea.  But even in Japan it is uncommon; and since the discharge and urethral pain cleared up, you can be sure the gonorrhea is cured.  However, cephalosporins are among the antibiotics that commonly trigger yeast infections.  And yes, the cephalosporins would prevent syphilis.

I hope this helps.  Follow up with your doctor about the groin and rectal symtpoms.

I thought I should mention the medication, it is called Flomox, I live in Osaka Japan. Flomox is a Japanese version of Cephalosporin. I had 3 X 100 mg per day for 14 days. Would this be sufficient in killing the Gonorrhea. Would it also knock out things like Syphilis?
