syphilis transmission

I am a married male who has recently had a couple of sexual encounters with other males. The first one consisted of light kissing on the lips for a brief period and mutual masturbation. The second consisted of self masturbation where my penis tip may have touched his anus lightly. I am pretty sure that there were no sores present. My general doctor prescribed doxycycline as a "just in case" measure the next day. I took 300mg/day for five days and am now on 200mg/day for a further nine days. On the sixth day I could put my wife off no longer and she used my penis to stimulate herself. I had no sores present on my penis.

My questions are:

What are my chances of gettiing syphilis and passing it on to my wife if no syphilis sores were present upon my possible contact with his anus, and my contact with my wife?

Would the doxycycline have cured any incubating syphilis infection in those first five days?

I know I have been stupid and have promised myself never to do this again. Please answer my questions as I cannot concentrate on anything else at the moment.

I was tested positive for Syphilis after discovering a sore on the underside of my penis.  I understand that it takes between 10 and 90 days after contracting the disease for a sore to appear, and much to my regret I had unprotected sex with a girl during this intervening period.  What are the chances of transmitting the disease before a sore appears?

Thanks in advance

I misread your question as saying penis-penis contact, not penis-anus.  But the answer is the same.  Syphilis cannot be transmitted by light contact; the organism has to get into the skin, not just on it.

Thanks for the quick response. I am much relieved. You didn't mention the possible light penis-anus contact though...is this also nothing to worry about?  Also, out of interest, is it possible to get infected if there are no syphilis sores present, as I have read that they do not always materialise at the sight of infection.
Thanks again.

You're home free.  The risk of acquiring syphilis by kissing and mutual masturbation is zero or close to it; ditto for penisoto-penis contact.  And doxycycline would prevent syphilis if you were exposed.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
