I was tested positive for Syphilis after discovering a sore on the underside of my penis. I understand that it takes between 10 and 90 days after contracting the disease for a sore to appear, and much to my regret I had unprotected sex with a girl during this intervening period. What are the chances of transmitting the disease before a sore appears?
Thanks in advance
I misread your question as saying penis-penis contact, not penis-anus. But the answer is the same. Syphilis cannot be transmitted by light contact; the organism has to get into the skin, not just on it.

Thanks for the quick response. I am much relieved. You didn't mention the possible light penis-anus contact though...is this also nothing to worry about? Also, out of interest, is it possible to get infected if there are no syphilis sores present, as I have read that they do not always materialise at the sight of infection.
Thanks again.
You're home free. The risk of acquiring syphilis by kissing and mutual masturbation is zero or close to it; ditto for penisoto-penis contact. And doxycycline would prevent syphilis if you were exposed.
Good luck-- HHH, MD
