tired of this itch

I am a 44 year old female.  On Oct 12,  thought i had a yeast infection treated with Monistat over the counter. Was still itching some. On Oct 21, found a mosquito type bite on my pubic hair it never blistered nothing came out just a little clear fluid and blood, had mosquito bites on my leg the spot never hurt just itched a little it went away with no scabbing or blistering.  I also had two very small bumps in the pubic hair way up that were already there appeared to be from shaving. Kept my pubic hair in the mons pubic area shaved but let it grow back at this time in which it is still growing has been itching. Had a bit of milky white discharge but no smell and still I had unprotected sex on Sept 19 that was the last time.  Went to a general dr 10-29  did a wet mount and clue cells along with elevated PH showed I had bacterial vaginosis.  I started my period the next day a  week early I think this was all from nerves.  I started the metro gel he prescribed on 11-1.  On 11-22 i was diagnosed with a bladder infection and given cipro and two diflucan in case of a yeast infection started period.   At this point i was now having some anal, vulva and pubic itching on both sides.  I took the cipro and diflucan  and the itching has gotten worse.  I can go one day without itching but it will come right back.  I have yet to see my gynecologist but have talked to his nurse she thinks this is an exterior yeast infection and said the diflucan would not help that and told me to use monistat as an itch cream.  It has helped I put it in the pubic area all the way to the anal area.  I had another very tiny spot in the pubic hair about 2 inches from the other ones that almost looked like a clogged pore that i messed with and it just had a tiny bit of pus and bled.  I have had a total of five of these in the pubic hair.   They do not hurt nor look like blisters and only have like a pin head little scab and are usually are almost gone in a day unless i pick at them.  Is this herpes?

Thank you for your response.  I am just scared to death and not sure what is going on and I pick at every little bump that comes up making it worse.  But thank you again.

Greetings and welcome to the forum.  Unfortunately, however, I really can't help very much.  No STD is a likely cause of the various symptoms you describe; once STDs are excluded, STD specialists like me don't typically manage patients with such problems, but refer them to gynecologists; and most important, when direct examination by a health care provider has not been able to come up with clear answers, no distant expert, no matter how knowledgeable, is likely to be able to do so.

Bacterial vaginosis is best described as a sexually associated disease, but not (usually) an STD.  In any case, BV can't explain most of your symptoms.  Herpes does not cause ongoing vulvar/genital burning, and generally doesn't cause lesions in the pubic (hairy) areas.  The usual cause of pimple-like lesions (i.e., with pus) in the pubic area is folliculitis, i.e. a superficial bacterial infection often due to staph or strep bacteria.  Another idea for lesions in the pubic area might be molluscum contagiosum, a minor viral infection that can be sexually transmitted.  The "small scabs" conceivably could be pubic lice:  look very closely and make sure they aren't small, slowly moving insect-like things.  You can also look for nits, i.e. louse eggs, which will appear as small white spots stuck to pubic hairs.  You should ask your general provider or your gynecologist about all these things.  Burning/itching indeed can be caused by yeast, but many times no specific cause can be found for such symptoms.

From your description, I doubt that any single problem explains all the symptoms you describe.  However it started, part of the problem could be yeast infection triggered by antibiotics (and some yeast infections are resistant to the standard treatments); you may also have folliculitis; and even if you have (or had) BV, it can't cause most of the problems you describe.  You describe nothing that suggests herpes or other STD, however.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. You're just going to have to work with your own provider(s).  If all else fails, ask for referral to a gynecologist who specializes in infectious diseases; such specialists can be found in most major metropolitan areas and/or at large medical centers.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
