Concerned About Area On 3 Year Old Son's Eyelid

My 3 year old son has always had a freckle on the top rim of his lower eyelid (i.e. between his eyelashes and eye).

Recently, in the ER for an unrelated issue (a laceration) near this eye, we noticed the freckle on his eyelid seems a bit raised and a bit darker.

We were sent to a local children's hospital to ***** this. The doctor said that it is not statistically likely to be cancerous, and more likely to be a simple mole (I think she used the term mole, maybe not). Therefore, she said that she did not recommend removing it at this point.

1 - In order to know for sure whether it were dangerous or cancerous, it would have to be removed(?), and again she did not recommend this at the age of three. But I thought that signs to watch out for are a change in color, becoming raised, etc.?

2 - She mentioned that a mole will likely continue to grow, especially during puberty. Would it be advisable in general to remove it before it becomes larger, as it will obviously be more to remove as it grows? I am not entirely sure how a surgeon would go about removing something like this in such an area.

Would an Occuloplastic Surgeon be the best type of specialist to bring him to for further/another assessment?

Hi there, I just happened by, saw that no one had answered your question.  I am not a doctor just a fellow patient.
If he were my son, I would take him to a dermatologist to have it checked out.
It can't hurt to have it looked at, it may be nothing but it would ease your mind to know what it is.  You might be able to find a dermatologist who specializes in children.
He has beautiful long eyelashes.  I bet he is so adorable :)
Good luck, I hope it is nothing serious.
