Help with Biopsy report

Hi.  My daughter had a mole/birthmark removed off her heel 2 weeks ago.  The original biopsy report states compound melanocytic nevus, dysplastic with moderate atypia.  The neoplasm extends to the peripheral and deep margins.  Lesion should be completely excised for treatment and evaluation.

okay...moving on...we had the lesion excised further last week and got the path report today.  Tinea with corneal hemosiderin present.  fungal yeast and hyphae identified.  NO NEVUS IS PRESENT ON SERIAL STEP SECTIONS THROUGH THE BLOCK.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN????  Did they really get it all with the first biopsy and the second excision was for nothing???  She is only 4 years old and I am concerned.  Any ideas???

Hi,

the 2nd excision was sure to be clear to the margins to get rid of every hint of atypia, etc.  They want clear skin surrounding the excision to know they've gotten it "all"

Hope this helps!

I read this as good news. Sounds like it was all removed and all is well.

The second biopsy was always precautionary to remove all chances of any problem in the future.

Take care.
