Melanoma

So, I am worried. Two months ago, I consulted a derm for a black-brown mole on my anterior lower leg which had spontaneously opened up, bled, and refused to heal over for two weeks. The doc was not terribly concerned about that lesion, but did remove three other dysplastic moles which turned out to be "severly dysplastic" and required additional excisions. For my original lesion, he prescibed oral and topical antibiotics

Two months later, the original lesion has still not healed. It is a raised bump, about a centimeter across, not terribly assymentrical, and pink, purple and tan.

I'm having it removed (finally) next week. Does this suond anything like melanoma? Am I freaking out for nothing? BTW, I am a female, 29, pale skin, former sun-worshipper.

Thanks for listening,

Velcrochica

Hi - I agree with PP

I had one that was benign and did as you describe .. it never healed and left an open, oozing circle in the ctr.  Turned out after re-excsion to be totally benign.  I've had many sev. dysplastic as you mention, too .... and one early melanoma.  I'd have it removed to be safe and I wouldn't worry at this point at all.

If your doctor wasn't concerned at the time I would try not to worry about it too much. It is good that it is being finally removed though.

Take care of yourself until you find out one way or the other.
