Picked at a mole that seemed to be growing?

Hello, I had a mole on my face. One day it appeared to be growing a bit, so I picked at it and such:

Now there appears to be a scab over the area. It doesnt really seem to heal well (maybe I am picking at it too much)...

*I made appointment with the derm. I wanted to ask can they still take a sample to see if it is cancer even if the mole was picked off by me, or does it have to be the actual mole to test? Can they get under the infected scab to still see if it is Melanoma?

If you pick they usually will eventually come back.  I'd see a Derma and they probably can get enough to biopsy it if warranted.
